Like š9am ol9 opp is important ppm
I started with the 30 day challenge and basically used the Onion Method alongside that.
Swedish Death Cleaning is my #1.
Not for other people to have to avoid cleaning after Iām gone but, so I can look at it realistically and not have to clean up after myself so hard.
I get rid of it for myself and offer things to people I know first or who trip through my life.
If they want it, āgood-bye, āitā. If they donāt it goes to donation.
Now itās their possession to get rid of by sale or they can throw it away.
This way Iām not throwing away things I spent $ on, I did as best I could to find it a home. They throw it away for me.
I used to take stuff my mother gave me because she couldnāt throw anything away either. I threw her stuff away just fine, IF I couldnāt use it.
I Think you would loooooove Dana K White.
Loved that clip on Swedish Death Cleaning ššš I need to share that with my kids
Loved this video! Great descriptions of each method.
I did Swedish death cleaning first then I put boxes in every room I put it in there as I find it then I take the box as it gets full I have removed thousands of items if I get in a drawer I scan it for things I don't use when I get in a closet I scan for anything that I see that's for sure not staying in my home cause if I don't it will very quickly get back out of control but I can say it was a real process and so much harder than I ever imagined
I finally had success with decluttering by using Dana K. White's container concept. It also helped me to declutter by category (sewing stuff, clothes, office supplies , etc) rather than by room.
I love the way the methods are listed. This would be perfect for someone that is new to minimalism. I've been decluttering for a few years now so my go to is method #5.
I think the one room per week could work with some rooms (smaller roomsā¦.ex. bathroom, laundry room) For the larger rooms or more cluttered rooms just allow more timeā¦..2 weeks, 3 weeks, etc. I think that sticking to one room at a time could be beneficial. Just donāt move on until the one room is complete.
I started with the Konmari method and I agree, it works but it also can be quite overwhelming and you also need a fair chunk of time to get anything done. I now just let stuff go as I come across it. So perhaps a combination of onion method and death cleaning (since one of my main motivations is not leaving things for my son to deal with). Great video!
I do the "what I can when I can" method.
I am very surprised that Dana K White' s method didn't make your list at all! The combination of Dawn from Minimal Mom, Dana K White and learning which type of organizer you are from Clutterbug are wonderful! I found my life changed when I initially did Kon Mari, then after the first big go around, I incorporated the power team of Minimal Mom, Dana K White to keep it going and then learned my organizing style from Clutterbug to finish it out.
Great video! I watch a lot of decluttering videos here on YouTube – doing the actual work is another story šbut this video actually made me want to move my b… Especially with your suggestion at the end of this video š
What about one drawer at a time, then one cabinet, next one closet?
Donāt forget trash bag therapy! This is when you take a black trash bag and just look for garbage around your house! I learned this from Cas @ Clutterbugā¦brilliant, and it works! āŗļø
I'm decluttering based on dividing the house into sections. I'm cleaning and decluttering. In a month I'll go through it again. I have most of my kitchen counter space available now. Next week I'm doing my downstairs bathroom and office. The following week will be my upstairs. That's where I started. I get rid of 6-10 items daily minimally. My father in law died. He and his wife were hoarders. We filled multiple dumpsters with their stuff. We donated what we could. Sometimes you get tired of donating.
My number one is Dana K Whiteās method. Pick one spot and progress and only progress.
Dana K Whiteās No Mess Decluttering Method for the win !
Love how you defined and then ranked different decluttering methods!
All my life my ideal garage…is an empty garage…sounds like ocd to me
I procrastinate. And what I do is I go shopping as Therapy for procrastination. Isn't that terrible. So I went to this closing out store and got 60 to 90% off on what I wanted and now I have a good excuse and I mean a. Very good excuse to get rid of stuff but I no longer want because it's too old and it's ugly and it's ripped and it's torn. old small appliances that look ugly or too many. But if you buy a nice appliance that can be used for many different things to . And can be replaced Instead of using Numerous items.
At the closing out sale I got ninety percent off on the last day. I got bed sheets and pillowcases and 2 small appliances and I got shelving where I could put everything from my cupboards onto the shelving. And make up room.
Normally I could never afford that but when you see a closing out sale. Take advantage of it and make note of what you really need.
For example there was a Nice pot and pans that were normally twelve hundred. Mart seventy percent off .
So do the math. That way you can get rid of all your old pots and pans that no longer are useful or are so old and need to be replaced.
I never buy anything anymore brand new unless it's on sale and with that big sale which started a week ago it ended
Today with 90% savings on everything remaining.
People were buying sheet sets pillow sets curtains rods.
Things that were marked from $85 down by 90%. Becas the business was going out and a new building was coming in. And I think it's the old zeller's? I'm not too sure.
If you're not working and if you're a senior you can take everything out all at once because you have more time than a husband and wife who work.
But the message of doing one thing at a time seems to work better for some people.
For me I was doing the fast method and it worked to some extent.
I donāt have proper shelving/storing in my apartment. That hinders me because thereās nowhere for me to store what I need to keep.
One thing you can do is carry a trash bag with you as you go about the room. The intent is to find things to throw out as you go along.
I absolutely love that you used George Carlin's piece and I really appreciated the joke about death cleaning š Death and laughter – what a great duo! I am in the third decluttering session right now and I really appreciate the summary of the methods. Makes it so much easier! Thank you š
Kon Marie doesn't work for me at all because everything sparks joy. š š I actually find really good results sith the one room a week. I have ADHD and it really helps me hyper focus on an area but not get super distracted with other rooms. I also love the container method and thinking about whether I want to manage something because I have found that is more accurate in should I keep this as opposed to how much I like something.
I'm interested by how high the 30 day and 10-10-10 method is. Both of those cause me to crash and burn when I have tried them because I overthink the number and just like to get things out and not have a few items sitting to be donated or whatever. Again, maybe my ADHD here but when I get over the effort of actually making myself do something, I need to do enough to make it worth it and get in a groove rather than a constant start and stop as I have to work with flow rather than against it to be productive. That being said, some brains may function more linear than mine and not have as big of an issue with task avoidance. š It is interesting to learn how different everyone's decluttering style is. š
