Quercitin is phenomenal for hay fever! I used to get such bad hay fever that I felt like I couldn't leave the house, and I take 1000 mg of quercitin daily now and have no problem. With that and local honey, I'm sure Charlie will be good as gold.

What a sneeze!!
Ah, it's the yeast that is causing your baking to go flat. That happens when dry yeast from a packet has not been activated or it has beenkilled by hot water or salt prior to baking. One needs to let the yeast activate before proceeding to add it to your recipe. To do this, start with a small bowl and add the liquid required for your recipe (water or milk only). Ensure the liquid is not hot or cold (it should be around 40C). Add a pinch of sugar and stir. Wait ten minutes. If the liquid is bubbly/foamy, your yeast is alive, activated, and ready to be incorporated into your recipe. If it isn't, then your yeast is dead, unfortunately. Also, keep salt away from your yeast, as salt will kill yeast almost instantly. Never let salt or baking powder/soda touch your liquid yeast mixture. You can only add those ingredients after your liquid yeast mixture has been stabilized with a bit of flour and is no longer liquid. I hope this helps.
Cooking is an art. Baking is a science. Always try the recipe once as it is written. Adding other ingredients will change the liquid to dry ingredients or require additional leavening agents. Practice on simple cakes like chocolate, vanilla, etc. If add rhubarb to a vanilla cake , for example, will add a lot of moisture when the cake bakes. Keep practicing and you’ll be star baker!😊

It looks like your cake tin was too low to support the cake as it rose up – that looks like the cake tin size you use for one half of a victoria sponge cake. The other thng is that the addition of the rhubarb may have made the cake too 'wet'.
Eating honey made locally is meant to be good for hay fever as the bees will have used local pollen – so that gives your body the chance to make antigens naturally. I'm afraid Homeopathy has been discredited as thre was no evidence found to show it actually worked – remember all prescribed medicines have to have undergone double-blind controlled trials to prove they work. Any 'benefits' from other things is often down to the placebo effect (which is very strong!).

My mother made a beautiful date cake with a shortbread bottom and layer of dates and the most amazing topping with lemon in it. We lived in New Zealand and I think she got it there. They are a good laxative. Burford I remember from living near and it retains it's charm. The plant you called hearts is also called "Dutchman's britches or breeches". Dicentra spectabilis or bleeding heart and I like the white variety best.
