Hello! My name is Bethany and I grow things in my rooftop container garden in Chicago, zone 6a. In this video, I’ll be planting two grow bags of potatoes.

  1. I did this last season. Grew big stalks but the potatoes weren't big at all. I think I needed a much bigger grow bag.

  2. I’m not surprised you are growing potatoes. I’m sure you will try every vegetable in the book just because. I truly cannot wait to see the results and your taste test. Thank you for the video.

  3. Its snowing here in the Chi. The wind blew off my frost cover and my peppers, tomatoes, peas, got exposed to the elements and the snow. I covered them up immediately. My lettuce, and radishes should be ok since they are cold tolerant. Just hope they will survive.

  4. I grew potatoes for the first time last year. I loved them, I only wish I planted more. Good luck with yours!

  5. Great premise for your channel! We rented/lived in an rv for a few years waiting to buy a house-we STILL plant some veggies in containers even though there’s more room now!

  6. Also with all your tiny potatoes at harvest time you can save them for next year in a cool space so they dont sprout to fast

  7. "this is way more than I can fit in my garden."
I'm sorry. We can still see more space over there and over there and over there. And, over here as well. This 1×1 part here? easy 10 pots.

  8. Those purple Majesty are in the same category as Yukon Gold. I love growing those in a 10 gallon grow bag similar to what you are doing. When I plant them I go ahead and fill the bag completely because I'm just too lazy and forgetful to come back and add more soil at the appropriate time. My last round of potatoes I completely forgot so I was happy to have had the soil all the way filled. I came back three months later and they were ready to harvest! LOL hahaha I love your rooftop garden and the scenery is amazing. You've just got to love the bells in minute five of your video!

  9. If these are determinates, which is likely, you can plant two across the handles, add in three inches of soil, and then plant two more but 45 degrees away, so you end up with N S on one layer E W on the other. Following some diehard potato in containers YouTubers, I have mixed in blood fish and bone meal and especially potassium to the mix. I'm looking forward to seeing your results.
