The high quality of your stuff would be good enough, the rate that you pump out these information-dense videos is shocking. There's no doubt in my mind that this is THE aquarium channel to watch
Never got bored watching your videos, Alex 😊
By the way, both my tanks… the betta tank, the tank with Tiger Barbs and Cory Cats… are jungles now 😅
Red root floaters covering the top 🥰
So… I am now in the process of creating another water world… third tank 😊
Thank you, thank you, thank you soooo much 🙏🙏🙏😊😊😊
Never a waste of time…thank you.
Love this 😀 I'm a big fan of this style of tanks I been doing this for years 😅
I can't do it your way because I live in the tropics and it would cause too many insects to use and mozzies, but this can be done in standing water indoors in a windowsill, near a window. I sive in a fine sive some pond or river water and add it to that tank to get out any insects. That tank I can control the organisms and I put a few plants in there and lots of leave litter. No filter what so ever and covered with fly screen to keep mozzies etc out while inside as well. It can seed any tank and act as a food source for fry. I leave fish out of mine, to build up the numbers of the micro-organisms. The only things I try to avoid are scuds. I find they can easily take over a tank if the fish do not eat them, which most of my fish will not eat them at all. Another thing to do is get a piece of wood or sticks from around a pond or stream and put that into a jar. That's how I started this years ago. Just from a jar with twigs.
I've recently just got back into having a tank and have never done much of a planted tank before as I used to have axolotls. I've been researching loads and I love your videos! So informative and you're really encouraging my new fixation 😅 this video in particular is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you so much for the amount of work and detail you put into these videos.
Silky is so sweet!
certainly important for an aquatic ecosystem. grab a jar of muddy water from a pond, river, lake or stream and leave it for a month. the life inside will be mindblowing
Lol. Last month setup a used plastic pond liner in the back yard and threw a cup of floating plants from my aquarium in it. Going to add some diversity to the pond with dead leaf and dead oak sticks. Will do your jar acclimation in the room instruction.. I'm redneck and everything looked good to me…
Alex, we all owe you a ton for all you've shared with us. What I want to know is what's it going to take to get you to Aquashella Dallas this year so I can buy you a brew or share a bowl with you or SOMETHING🤔
ah yes, the professional who lets his aquarium overgrow to the point his fish has less space then in a jar … who ffs looks at that and says to himself 'he knows what he is talking about'?!
All I see here is a lazy dude and animal abuse. Sure, your micro organisms will love it, but you f your macro organisms in return.
These videos are awesome! So informational and well done. I can't wait to have an established tank. I do have a few questions? How long have you had these buckets? How do you make each one acidic or neutral? Do you ever get rid of the water? I'll eventually have a Betta tank and will definitely do this method.
Wow! Excellent!❤❤❤
I'm so glad I found your channel. Love all of the information, thank you….❤
Can we use Uv light light with this or will kill them
I have been looking for an aquarium channel like this. Right on.
Thank you! WoW!✌🏼🐠🖖🏼
Great info and some really unique things you've shown and of how to do it. I'm excited to try my luck at building a mini-culture now. (Could a layer of screen wire keep out the bigger insects? We have frogs here and they would get into an open tub.) Thanks again. Take Care and Stay Safe.
I appreciate your video, but those fish cannot move…
I don't even have an aquarium and I really enjoy watching your material.
trim the tanks please. they look hideous
L immensely enjoyed this video. I think I am already headed in this direction to a big degree. I have many aquariums hooked together and grow a growing number of plants. L like the idea of a biome that I can leave for a few days and gp on a trip without major worries about the fish having food. Most of all I like to have an environment that my fish feel natural, secure, and at home in. I have a kiddy pool out back that I landscaped around to make a pond for my big Goldfish but a racoon or farrel cat caught and killed most of them so I brought the survivors back inside. I am going to put some big PCV out in it for goos hiding places and take out some frog bits and duck weed to give them cover. I probably have some of those microbes and small life forms already living out there. I am going to have to clean the area up and utilize it. Thank you for this great video.
Be careful with plastic containers.Plastic starts to break down when wet and or getting warm.Toxins will seep into the water and even getting absorbed by plants (thats the major problem we have in general worldwide due us thriwing plastic away or not pucking it up.Scientists just beginning to see the results of studies on these toxins who effect every living being negatively
.)
I've kept tanks some years now, always wanted tanks like yours, but mine wont thrive. I hope I can achieve this with my tanks. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. As a microbiologist myself I was always afraid of introducing pests/diseases. Time to see the good things of these useful microbes instead of being afraid.
I was so intrigued when you said that smaller fish don't need to be fed with a good biome of small animal prey.
I've been interested in concepts like this for a long time. Creating a true sustaining ecosystem.
Not to play God or anything blasphemous like that, but to appreciate the natural orders that we take for granted.
True sustaining ecosystems with a natural supply of food, water, the biological breakdown of wastes, and sometimes even oxygen, mostly running without any human intervention. Springtails in a closed terrarium would be one of the best examples I could give.
I'm starting with providing these tiny worlds for invertebrates rather than fish or reptiles just to be safe, particularly pond organisms like snails, isopods, etc. It doesn't have to be anything impressive. The self-powered efficient ecosystem is impressive enough.
