Here are some principles to help you prepare your garden beds for transplants. This is how I set my beds up for my tomato, pepper, and eggplant transplants. You might not always have access to.. “just put down 2 inches of compost.”

Thanks Gary, spring is in the air in Ontario.
Thanks again and again!
those thistles grow from a horizontal "tuber' root. They will progressively come back unless you dig deep and get the horizontal root also
I'm going to have my son in law build raised beds for next year. My husband tills one garden twice to kill weeds. I have to wait until it's dry to plant. I can't wait if the ground has to dry out between tilling. Plus, no matter what, we have weeds.
I think the trick is to cover the beds in fall to keep weed seed from taking hold.
Even mulching only helps so much. We live in the woods so weeds are abundant.
We do add compost, leaf for mulch, & water frequently.
I brought in young plants indoors last night because it got down to 41° with a wind chill of 30° after a high of 80°.
Tomatoes & peppers are waiting.
In Zone 6.
Its been a roller coaster spring.
No reply needed. Just wanted to say thank you for the great suggestions and examples, and for not making us gardeners on a budget feel bad about being cheap. Much appreciation.

I have absolutely not felt like gardening this year at all. In March I started my seeds, everything is growing good, but I still have not felt excited or enthused about gardening at all this year, until I watched this video. It has me getting excited again about gardening. I need to plant my tomato plants up in bigger containers, I usually transfer them from their seed trays to red solo cups and then plant them after a few weeks of growing in the cups. Thanks for the inspiration.
