What is foraging, and have you ever done it?
•
Foraging is hunting and combing the land for food resources.
•
Relying on what is found in nature to give us everything we need in terms of food and medicine has been the way man has survived since the beginning of time.
•
Most yard “weeds” we were taught to believe are bad or poisonous due to today’s societal conditioning for manicured lawns are genuinely here to give us an abundance of health and wellness.
•
I encourage you to take back or improve your health by learning about some of these edible medicinal plants!
•
TIPS BEFORE FORAGING:
🍄 Never harvest or consume plants that have been sprayed with pesticide or herbicide treatments!
🌱 Always obtain permission before foraging on someone else’s land!
🌰 Properly identify each plant you harvest! There are pocket guides and even apps available for beginners who need assistance in identifying different plant species.

Many of the “weeds” in your backyard are edible, medicinal plants! Start there!
•
Things you need:
🧺 Bowl or basket to carry your harvest with you
🧤Gloves (I find these optional, but some plants do sting if you don’t know how to pick them without being stung)
✂️ Snips or scissors (also optional, in my opinion)

🧒🏼 Grab your children; include the whole family! There’s so much to learn; foraging will feed a child’s naturally curious appetite!

Will you try foraging this spring?
