This is how I fertilize and refresh my container soil each spring. You can use any combination of organic granular or water-soluble fertilizers. And if you have compost, I show you how to use that. You can’t always dump a container out, to amend the soil, because it may have a perennial plant growing in it. Here are some simple principles you can apply to refreshing soil in your containers.

Lots of great information! Thanks Gary!
When you mint or spearmint, do you throw the trimmings into the compost pile? Or just onto the ground?
Thanks for the useful information. Perfect timing!!
I have a question. Can you suggest a good container to use for mixing soil, compost, etc. prior to planting. I am picturing a good sized dish wash basin. Do you have any other suggestions, and where to source? Many thanks.
I have a question I have two small matter patches I have seen videos were you need to rotate the plants every year what would you say
Thanks
Excellent video! Do people still use compost tea, or is that no longer a thing?
Is this good protocol for raised beds that are about 4×4 sitting in rocks?
My rosemary didn’t survive the cold snap we had but other perennials did.
👍🏼
Great information. Is it too late to grow herbs from seed?
Gary do you leave any plastic pots with soil over the winter or do they get too beat up? I emptied dozens of 5 gallon buckets I used as containers last season and it’s exhausting to refill them every year. I left my fabric pots to over winter. They did fine.
Hi, I refreshed some containers from last year. I also got MG potting mix and MG organic inground soil. I noticed that they have alot of wood product in them. Is that ok? Should I add other types of soil into the containers with the MG potting mix? More worm casting, black cow? Also, is that the Alaskan fish fertilizer that you're using for your plants? One more queston, the MG says it feeds for 6 months. If it feeds for 6 months is it necessary to keep adding fertilizer over time?
👍👍👍👍👍
My Rosemary died too. The oregano and thyme are going bonkers already and the sage is starting to show a tiny bit of growth. I’m going to get some mint plants this weekend.
Is there a difference between chicken manure and cow manure? is one better for certain plants?
My containers need to be replaced. So I'll weed them, the dump them out on a tarp, amend, then fill new containers. That's the plan, anyway!
I love that the dogs were out there helping you! 💖
Gary in the pot that you said you were going to plant the peppers in. The one with the strawberry plant. My question is how many pepper plants will you plant in that container? Thank you!
Wow very good
