It’s time here in Zone 9 to get the Spring vegetable garden underway! In early January I started my tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and various brassicas. Now that the temperatures are soaring, with little possibility of frost, I’ve decided to take the leap and get my plants sown directly in our raised garden beds & no till garden rows. 💚

This year we’re using mushroom compost to top off all our garden beds and further enrich our permaculture garden. In addition to our 20+ raised beds, we’ve added huge “no till” garden rows, utilizing a deep mulching – back to Eden type technique.

The spring vegetable garden is one of the most exciting times of the year for homesteaders and backyard farmers. This year my families hope is to grow more organic produce than ever and be as self sufficient as possible! Thanks so much for watching 😊

  1. 1. I'm totally jealous you are in the garden right now. We are still covered in snow up here.

    2. Your belly is adorable and you are beautiful! So excited for you and pray for a quick and safe delivery and healthy mom and baby!

    3. This was thoroughly enjoyable to watch! The cranes were neat too! I look forward to seeing all these things blooming!

  2. the Sand Hill Cranes fly over our Colorado farm on their way to nest in Nebraska , they are magical .
Our chickens love pumpkins and zucchini , we are chopping up the last pumpkin from last year to feed them this week .
God bless your family and the new arrival . I guess in Central Florida the Cranes bring the babies not the Storks .

  3. The annual problem, where to plant all the tomatoes we planting in late winter. I did get 5 Shelby paste tomatoes planted, so we will see if they are as good as people say they are. I have 52 tomato plants in the garden and 14 more in containers in the front yard.
And do not worry about cross pollination on the squash, it will only affect them if you save the seed, not this years crop. Except for corn, you will get cross pollination and because you eat the seed, it can ruin the sweet corn if you plant more than one variety at a time.

  4. I live in Altoona Florida Lake County. And do organic gardening in raised beds for years. We are so blessed with the endless summer weather our growing season is year round.🤣 You do an amazing job with your videos. Gardening is our passion. I'm so happy for you too. Wish you the best with your new baby.

  5. Howdy Shelby! fellow Florida gardener here I grow mostly perennial fruits and veg here in Ocala, leaning on food forest principles!

  6. Hope you didn't lose anything in the freeze on 3/19 through 3/21. I'm in the panhandle and had most in pots so I hauled them in and out. But forgot one tomato and it croaked.

  7. The garden is looking awesome! So jelly you get to start early. Those cranes sound so cool. I hope you and baby are doing well. ❤❤❤ I can’t wait to see your garden updates. -Cady
