What a headache of a pest, such a tiny creature doing so much damage. I'm wondering if they are only attacking the younger, softer plants. IT SUCKS WHEN ITS YOUR FOOD SOURECE THATS BEING COMPROMISED. I hope you guys get ahead of it and somewhat control and eradicate the issue. peace ✌🏾
This is the same pest that killed my Santa Rosa plum and LSU Purple fig last year. I began a strict regimen of spraying fruit trees with dormant oil and a pesticide during the winter months.
Those r carpenter worms they're drilling to lay eggs. They eat the middle of the branch bc it's sweet. I get rid of them with dish soap and water in a bottle. If you have Vel dish soap even better. They don't like it when sprayed they die.
When I order my fruit trees they come with this white paint on it. Looked it up and they say it's for insects like the ones you have. I bought some for my figs it's called IV organics. It comes in spray or paint form and it protects against sunburn, insects, and rodents. Don't be so quick to chop before you inject neem because it may comeback. Plants are very resilient I almost through my fig tree out but new branches always emerge from the base of the tree.
I have issues with the ambrosia beetle worms bad. They destroyed my mulberry, pawpaw, etc. I am done with them. I am going old school and looking to whitewash the remaining trees. Look up the author Leigh Tate, she has a book of recipes and look at Black Gumbo he is using a commercial whitewash product for his trees. Let us know what you try and if it works.
Thanks for sharing. Darn it! I’m going to check my trees rn. Possibly going to spend the money for IV Organics paint or spray. I’ll try neem oil for now if I see anything. Blessings to you both. 💜🙏🏼💜
They keep destroying my trees every year too. They get attracted to the trees after the fake springs. The trees release a scent that attracts them from being stressed from the cold snap. Not sure what to do. ☹️
Thanks for the information, I saw that on our moringa after a freeze, and I thought it was just secretions coming out due to the cold weather. Time to check all of my trees!
King, may I suggest taking one of the bugs alive and apply whatever pesticide you are going to use and see if it is effective at killing the bug. Instead of trying several different types of pesticides, etc…
I got a letter from the NorthCentral Pennsylvania Conservancy about this new beetle that will target Sugar Maples and fruit trees. It’s different than the Ash borer beetle that took out all my Ash trees. I have century old Sugar Maples, and seven mature apple trees…this will be a major wipe out as I live on a mountain and the hillside is held together by these trees. Maple Surup is a qualified USDA crop and without the trees, there’s no maple surup. The good news is maple firewood burns long and clean.
I took a drive today looking at my tree lines and saw 4 big trees that came down in that windstorm two days ago. Most likely they were dead standing Ash trees. My Sugar Maples only lost dead sticks. As of now, they are healthy. I will research this new beetle and what trees they do not touch, then buy some to replant in the footprints of my dead Ash trees and near my Maples. It’s very important to plant and maintain hardwoods nut and fruit trees, some take decades before they produce, for instance a hickory tree takes 30 years to produce nuts, which are vital to wildlife and birds. The dead sticks that fall are wonderful in BBQ smokers.
Hello grow family net work maybe you can inject some neam oil in to the branches a turkey baster needle would be too big. You probably need a smaller needle 💉 and squirt it into the branch I hope you can get them.
Oh Man! They are everywhere at my house. I didn't know what they were, just "a little beetle of some kind." Now I know what is killing some of my trees. For some of them, it's too late. But I think I can still save my tree hydrangea, which has been infected. Thank you for the info!

Rather than digging them out try to inject the neem oil into the hole they dig.
Good heads up bro! We gonna have to check our fruit tree's for this one. We sure appreciate y'all King & Bev 💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯
thx for looking out King…prayers for wisdom for u guys to know how to win against this pest in the Name of Jesus 🙏❤💜
Maybe you can drill him out and hope he didn’t leave no eggs in the tree idk what it is but I’d try to use a drill

You should use this opportunity to try some are grafting in order to try to kill the bug and replant your trees
That wagon really does save some wear and tear on the body. I hope you conquer the bugs

" THANKS "
Amazing how something so small can cause so much damage….Nature….
Thank you for the info!! We had a mulberry that was infested! We cut the tree down.
Notify the agricultural extension. 😲 They may be able to help you.
Oh boy. Hope you guys are able to save your plants.

I wonder if that killed my Santa Rosa plum. Thanks for sharing!
Freeze it

They got both my fig trees this year
Thanks for the heads up!
Try Diatomaceous Earth.

Worm would be the larva of the beetle that laid its eggs. It probably eats the pith before it goes into a pupa.
