This is a project that I have been needing to take care of for awhile now. The backyard garden update consists of a small retaining wall build, plus edging, additional drip lines, and the installation of a headboard to trellis.

Looking good!
Love your little helper π
Wow you did a great job, taking the fence out really opened it up. For longevity, Iβd plant in center in ground but I think you like to change things up every so often, so Iβd go w the pot! You may even want to try a different rose later (David Austin etc) so pot makes it easier. I love your videos, thanks so much.
Rose in center in pot
I think if you can get another rectangular planter like the one flanking the area where you installed the bed frame, it would be so pretty to plant the rose in that. It gives it height and it looks great with your brick and the metal with tie in nicely with your metal art on the wall.
Oh Amanda I love the headboard! Perfect for that area. I would leave the rose in the pot and put it in the middle so you can plant around it. I canβt wait to see what you do with that space.
For sure rose in the centerβ¦. To pot or not to pot?? Depends on size/style of pot & how vigorous the variety of climber you have chosenβ¦ if itβs very vigorous a pot might be a great way to rein it in, & keep it manageable for your trellis sizeβ¦. As long as pot is large enoughβ¦ so yes, center it in a LARGE pot would be my suggestion. But in the end do what works for YOU π
You are so creative! I would put the rose in the center & in the ground. This is beautiful!
I think the rose would be happier in the ground in the long runβ¦and I like the idea of planting it to the side !
Love the trellis!! My vote goes to the rose in the ground, planted in the center. In my experience, 98% of my roses that have lived in a pot for a few yrs always seem healthier and perform better when the roots can spread out. Especially a climber, looking GOOD!!
In ground, in center.
I vote to continue pavers.
I really love that headboard! What a wonderful idea to use it for a trellis! I think you should plant the rose in the ground, in the center.
Your rod iron headboard is gorgeous. What a beautiful idea lately you have been finding some really great stuff at estate sales and Facebook marketplace. For me, it seems like I always my plants do a lot better in the ground and I would definitely place it where it will get full sun, unless itβs a rose that tolerates part shade. Iβm really enjoying watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your gardening with us β€ I have my favorites and you are one of them π
Everything looks so good and the bed frame trellis is fantastic! Your rose will look amazing on it. I would leave it in a pot. Iβm big on container plantings. If you need to change itβs easier. I was originally going to vote for center location for the rose but I really like you idea of having it sweep across the trellis. My thoughts.
Why donβt you like Bermuda grass? Iβm just curious. I just saw why you donβt like it. I donβt care for st Augustine. I guess itβs a personal preference.
Rose in the center and in the garden. It will be better for itβs roots.
You need to have a structural inspector look at the crack in your concrete wall on your house.
I agree with others. In the ground. In the center. If left in a pot, I might consider getting a much larger one.
I cringe when I think of making holes in exterior of house
In the ground in the center.
Lots of things need to be taken into consideration when doing a re-design. I have 8 gardens but Iβm retired and have plenty of time to dedicate to gardening. You have a LOT to juggle. Throughout the years, I have also been disappointed with many people Iβve paid for weekly maintenance. The biggest issue is competence, reliability & common sense skills. Iβve had landscapers pull plants out of the ground because they didnβt know it wasnβt a weed. Iβve paid to have my boxwoods tied up and treated for the bitter cold yet the ties this year came undone – these are bush league mistakes that I now have to pay a tree company to take over that job because if the pruning and treatments are not done correctly this year, then I have 50 boxwoods ready for the compost heap. Many fun things like nice new stone borders would be great but EVERYTHING has gone up in price and if you are as particular as I am, I want it to look exact and those masons are very hard to find. Gardening is a labor of love – and it can be all consuming but very fun if you are meant to do it.
I vote in the ground for your rose and and in the center love the trellis head board
I love the headboard trellis, rose in pot in the middle π
Loved your project! Lots of hard work for you!! Enjoyed seeing lone iris bloom!!π
Iβm in west Tx, zone 8a, and Iβve been digging up Bermuda grass from around my mailbox all week. I decided to create a quarter moon flower bed around the mailbox, and it has taken me all week long to get all the grass dug up. Iβve worked on it every day for at least a couple of hours a day, and finally got it finished today. Bermuda grass is NO JOKE trying to get all those pesky roots dug up! Weβve also been building a huge rose arbor over our front sidewalk that consists of 10 4×4 timbers (5 on each side of the sidewalk) capped off with shorter 4×4 timbers for the tops and sides for new climbing roses that I ordered from DA this yr. We have decided to plant the roses directly in the ground once the arbors r completed and let them climb over the arbors so Iβm naturally leaning that way for ur rose. However, that being said, itβs ur garden and as long as ur happy, I think either way u choose will be beautiful! Absolutely IN LOVE with that headboard idea, and I think u got a fabulous deal!! πππ
I have that EXACT same headboard and I use it in my garden too! It originally came from Ikea. I got it years ago and used it as a headboard for a long time. It makes a much better trellis!
Love that headboard you found! I always think plants grow better in ground and roses live a long time.
Love the headboard !!!! β€
Looks really good. I'd put the rose in the corner. Leaves more room for more plants. πͺ΄πΏβπ OR, I like open areas too, show off that pretty mulch you put in.
Beautiful sharingβ€πβ€
Would put rose in ground in middle of your headboard. Like you we have that old time Bermuda grass that is very hard to kill.
LOVE that headboard! It reminds me of a Charleston garden gate. So elegant. The DIY garden orbs (earlier video) amazed me, but the headboard trellis is the most clever garden idea ever!
Yes – I need to do the same but I too have minimal budget and time. Maybe put that fabric guard under the bricks to prevent some of the grass from creeping through.
For me I feel that the stone wall is more gentle then the rub. That is just me opinion. I think your garden has turned out really well. Would you need to put down some soil for planting the climbing rose and clematis or will the mulch work? Enjoy your good work and have a great rest of your day.
I like your new trellis. I think the rose in the pot would look nice centered on the trellis . I can see other smaller pots or plantings around the base of the rose. I think if you put the rose in the ground then the trellis should be lowered closer to the ground. Bonny zone 5b
I vote for planting the rose in the garden and center it on your beautiful headboard.
I would plant it in the ground at the center of the trellis.
Definitely for me put in the center. I think that trellis is to big to have the rose off balance.
