Welcome to the No Dig Norfolk Gardener and our no dig/no till garden where we grow vegetables. We garden in zone 9a. Although we grow our veg from our back garden it is very much set up like allotment gardening UK – allotment life. Our passion is vegetable gardening, bigger harvests and no dig gardening. You will see how growing your own food is so easy.
If you need a little help to keep track of the jobs you could be doing in the Vegetable GardenAllotment, here’s a few handy tips to help you out in April.
If you have asked yourself the question what should I be doing on the veg plot in April or what are my allotment jobs for April.

I reuse potting soil to start seedlings in (sifted), and this year I did so and for some reason that completely eludes me (!) every module tray I have growing is full of onion seedlings, besides whatever I intentionally planted in there! I swear I did NOT drop a packet of onion seeds ever anywhere and this potting soil has never been around a flowering onion in it's life, LOL. Snow expected again today…. mid spring??? HA! I did get the peppers started and yes, there are onion seedlings in with them as well. Companion planting is already started here!☺👍🥬
Thats a nice tip to plant radish with parsnip. I will definitely do that. I also use marigold and tagetes. This year I'm adding calendula.
I have unexpectedly taken on a farm allotment plot near me so I am suddenly very busy. Plus I can do Brassicas in the new plot.
Good evening Barry ,like wise been in garden all day today ,as you know there is always some thing to do in the garden ,This month is enjoyable for me putting the seeds in ,even cut the grass today as the first of the year ,yes do like the lupin,s nice when in flower done them last year from seeds good result ,,it's always a pleasure to watch you clips and very well explained, keep up the good work best regards Steve ,not to far away lol 👍
Very nice to see how you are progressing with your spring garden. I'm not that far behind you. I put a few brassicas in this weekend under poly tunnels but didn't want to get carried away yet because we are having a cold night down to around freezing tonight. I think they'll be ok under the plastic though. I think my celeriac may just be beginning to germinate under my lights. You're correct it does take a while for them to germinate. I hear you guys over in the UK talk about broad beans often but never hear anyone in the States talk about them. I wonder if we refer to them as a different name here. Are they a dried bean? They seem very hardy compared to regular beans. Well we are going to have a few very warm days here this week so I'll be busy! Take care fellow gardeners.
Morning Barrie and Mrs W. I love your intro and I spotted pinky coloured violets I havnt seen that colour before. They are one of my fave flowers but mine are violet colour. They came from my mums garden so I have to keep them going. Anyway just love your intro👍🙋🏻
Our waterbutts are overflowing so trying to find more to store more water in case we have a very hot summer again. But also we will be getting hay for mulch as that and grass cuttings around thirsty plants keeps the moisture in and feeds the ground. Not so good if you have loads of slugs but we found it very useful last year. If you keep sticking your finger in the ground you can tell if there is moisture in the ground. It’s the poly that seems to dry out mostly and that’s where we grow toms so mulching in there is good. 👍that’s my tip. We just give a good watering once a week but mostly when they are flowering.
Hi Barry
Do you presoak peas overnight. Have had terrible germination with both Hurst Greenshaft & Kelvedon Wonder both grown in CD 30 cell trays
