We gave interior designers Darren Jett, Chiara de Rege, and Jenny Kaplan a photo of the same bare A-Frame cabin—then asked each of them to create a design for it in their particular style, however they pleased. Three artists, one canvas, each bringing something different to the space. See which designer comes closest to creating the rustic getaway of your dreams.

I love all of their styles, but personally when I'm looking for an A-frame in the woods type of situation, I'm looking for something really rustic and traditional and trying to rewind the clock on modernity. Really trying to escape the avant-garde and edge of the city. Nobody really attempted to capture anything like that.
The moment Jenny added that tile wall I was thinking “mistake, but not unsalvageable” and then she chose the particle-board cabinets and I thought “nope, not with that marble” and then chose to keep the fireplace and then she didn’t fix the lighting in the kitchen. Ngl, before she did the tile wall, I was really excited for her design but I feel like it fell short of her potential.
They're being too nice to each other. Its obvious Darren won this by miles.
"White wash the beams" Aaaaand, you lost me.
Woof that last one is so ugly and chaotic. No consistent style in there and feels very claustrophobic and random
Oh, Chiaro's was my main choice. Loved the lightened beams, the back wall all glass, the fireplace moved to the wall, akin to adobe, Just precious in its beauty, the lighter, softer colors. But Darren's kitchen with upper cabinets, lighting underneath, and his wall of bookcases were so much more practical and completed the spaces. Thanks, this was fun.
I would have gone dark and moody and cozy in this space.
Love Darren's design. Chiara's is… EWWWWWW
I want a fireplace just like Darren's!
If I had to spend a weekend in Jenny's cabin, it would be my villain origin story.
Darren's is definitely the best.
jenny was on thin ice already & then she whips out PARTICLE BOARD???? she also seems like she doesn't tip her barista. not trying to put be a hater myself, but her vibe was rancid lol. her "design" is entirely composed of ig ad-worthy furniture + using buzzwords to play up her presentation. the other two were fantastic in their own unique ways that i loved !!!!
I really like Chiaras open floor plan and a less cluttered look.
This needs to be a show or a regular series on YOUTUBE.
Darren’s feels romantic and livable, as it were designed for the intent of having a communal and personal gathering there. It’s very inviting and very thoughtful of the fact that people would be staying there. Chiara’s feels fresh and airy, almost like the key lime pie of A frames, with a nature connectivity that I love, and Jenny’s feels classy and fun to look at. It’s new and classic simultaneously.
The 2nd designer (window on back wall, moving the fireplace onto the left wall, and overall brightness) wins hands down as she really opened up the space. The man ignored the outdoors and installed 2 doors on either side of the back wall, which somehow made things darker, and the bookcase seemed to take too much space in the room. The 3rd designer put up a half wall to hinder light from the door making her design the most dark and, for my taste, very unappealing.
The original floor did not bother me, but the idea of the floor being heated is very enticing for the winter months.
The 2nd designer was very thoughtful in her process while the other 2 were designing for designing’s sake. Of course, there will be many who disagree but, as the French say, “à chacun son goût”.
I would add a chimney to the fireplace to prevent everyone in the room from dying
I don't always understand Darren's visions on properties, but I really like his take on this A-frame. I really think that his choices of the fireplace angles and the sofa with similar angles add to the A-frame shape over all. Chiara's I think takes away from the A-frame by making it more boxed in. Part of the beauty of the A-frame is the unusual shape.
When can I move in Darren??? ❤❤❤
If that would be all the money I'd have, I still wouldn't hesitate to buy Darren's A-Frame cabin, whereas Jenny's design was so uninspired, as if she graduated in Sims 4…
I want the zen guy to do this
Ok where do i hire Darren
I like the one the guy did with the poly carb glass. Lots of light. How would that work in a place that can reach sub zero temps?
Good luck cooking in those kitchens. I didn't see an appliances anywhere. There isn't even a good place to store your igloo cooler. I guess you could cook on the fireplace. Hot dogs for 8?
That's the thing about designers. They have other people cook and clean for them therefore they don't think to include these things in their designs.
Overall, Chiara was the most practical, open, and less cluttered design. As a person who lives in the forest, the first issue that stood out from Darren's is that I hope the snow fall in that area is close to nothing, even with the A frame snow pack can get deep in the mountains and that glass would need to be able to support a lot of snow weight. I should also mention that all glass would result in a lot of heat loss in the winter and excess heat in the summer. I would have recommended adding a split system in the unit. Also, for fire insurance, that fireplace in Darren's is not practical. I love the design of the large stone fireplace but It's best for a desert home. I understand wanting to conserve floor space but spiral cases would make any unboxed mattress hard to get up to the loft .
I could be completely wrong but I felt like Darren and Chiara have some understanding of architecture, how people live and move practically in a space.
Jenny likes fun textures and colors and I think with this small space, that not being her forte made the small space feel cramped rather than opening it up, which the other two clearly had as a major focus.
I like designer one and two, I don’t like everything that designer one put in, but I don’t like everything that designer two put in but those are the two for me. I would choose both, and both are beautiful. I like a lot of light, that one of the things that was appealing about designer two but then on the other hand, a lot of unique stuff coming from designer one. loved it
These are all kind of not great.
Hey, can ya'll make the renderings available to viewers and allow us to create our own designs to upload and share? Could be cool!
Darrin crushed it. LOVE
3 minutes in and all 3 “designers” have lost me. Frustrating and aggravating. Maybe start with the history of A-frames. Modern can be done and still keep the authenticity
Loved everything about Darrens design! Looks so expensive! So well thought of! Obsessed! Chiaras was so great too. Just some of the furniture choices were questionable and in the words/voice of Nene Leakes "not a white refrigerator". Jenny no disrespect but it just felt like i'd walk in and think it's a fixer upper. Just many ideas thrown together. I'm sorry just not my vibe but i'm sure somewhere out there someone loved it.
Chiara’s design. 100%.
Are there no interior designers of color? 😑
Darren Jett
But where is the bathroom? It seems like a vital piece of the brief that's missing. Outhouse only? 😂
Wow Darren's dramatic stage set…Chiara's elegant and peaceful framed view…Jenny's playful living zones… loved it
Jenny doesn't seem inspired at all. Like she's not loving what she's doing. I think that's mainly why there's so much negativity towards her. I mean……makes sense 😅 you can't look like you hate the camera when you're in a YouTube video.
Darren: sophisticated rich person
Chiara: generic home design
Jenny: teenager who ran away from home
My favourite has to be Darren’s obviously. If I lived there I would feel like a rich bachelorette who drinks wine in the silk pyjamas in front of their fire place every night, listening to classical music with some scented candles lit.
Chiara’s interior architecture, Darren’s materials, Jenny’s furniture, house done.
Jenny's kitchen was the ruination of the whole thing. That dreadful green wall and particle board is ballin' on budget. It just cut the back view. The couch and rug undertones were off. Darrin all the way. His is Nirvana for me.
Particle board? Fired
Daren is sooo hired.
Darren's design hands down!
