Our friends at Brushwood Nursery recently sent me several clematises to add to the garden, and I am excited to show you how I will be using them in a fun, new way in the berm! While I am in this space, I also am pruning my butterfly bushes and smooth hydrangeas to promote healthy new growth and loads of flowers for this summer. It’s a busy time in the garden, but also loads of fun!

Hey Jenny My clematis is going on it third season and I ordered a new one to add to my garden containers .Can’t wait to see how this ground one grows.
Jenny, thanks for the inspiration great idea with the clematis gambling along the ground. Just ordered two Hudson River's from Brushwood so excited to add these to my Zone 4b hillside garden. 👍
The daffodils look beautiful! Do you remember how many bulbs you put in each hole? I love the fullness of the clumps. I have some bulbs that need to be moved due to too much shade now. I’m having issues because tree roots have grown on top of them. 🙄
My sweet husband built me 3 trellises for the clematis. He is painting them now. Brushwood packages the clematis very well and they arrive In beautiful shape.
@gardening with creekside, 5:39, trial, one of the viburnums in a sunnier area, see if come next year it has more flowers. Cheers to all of the videos they are so inspiring. Thank you.🎉
Here in UK I usually take the Buddlhias down to about 1' high! Sounds brutal, and I suppose it's not pretty, but it's effective.
Lots of good info, anxious to see the new ground cover blooming.
Will you be constantly detach the clematis from surrounding bushes ?
I love all the plants in this video!!! Now I need to get a popcorn viburnum! I just need to check that is deer resistant 😅
I am interested in seeing how they look as grow cover. I can't wait to see the after photos.
I love this idea!
My hydrangeas suffer from brown spot (I don’t water overhead but between the rain and humidity they don’t stand a chance). I bought some copper fungicide but I’m not sure when, or how, to treat. I’m in Upstate SC outside Greenville I’m Zone 7B.
A suggestion: could you show a picture of each plant that you refer to ?🙏🫣, to remind us and reinforce what it will look like when in bloom in the landscape? Love you, Jenny!
The Clematis will e beautiful and fun to see!
Plant tone is what I always keep and tomato tone for veggies.
Hi there, okay I'll pull one weed … I've got a lovely crop of vetch. Grrr
Question. I planted some Nanho butterfly bushes last year. Should I prune them this year??
Thanks for the video!
Do you guys have any issues with Clematis choking out other plants? I have a few in the garden and some are fine but one of them takes off up an evergreen. I have damage on that evergreen and wondering if it was caused by the Clematis.
Love your work. I was just wondering when you didn't place them under the evergreen on the other side of the fence?
Your viburnum look beautiful! I love the daffodils too!
Jenny, thank you for telling us about Clematis. I just picked up 3 Clematis Arabella, and can't wait to plant them around my Vanessa Bell yellow roses…I am going to try the ground cover option as well…I'm in Central Florida, so they should do well as they are good to go to zone 11. Can't wait, and thank you! Love you channel!
Jenny, I wanted a clematis that didn’t climb and this one is purple 🙂. Thank you for this information.
Hi Jenny
Planted three new types of clematis last fall. Hoping they do well. Th roots were not developed like those you planted.
love your videos professional and classy RARE FOR YOUTUBE!
I have wondered if I could do this with some Clematis Armandii along the edge of a retaining wall. I think I'll try it someday since it would be a nice evergreen to perk up the winter garden. Thank you Jenny!
Love brushwood.
Thanks for the tip about Brushwood for clematis. So many beautiful offerings.
Great…my dad will be excited. His new house had clematis on a small lamppost/sign, and he loved seeing the post after I trimmed it back. Since then, we've just been lazy and it's turning into ground cover, so he'll be glad it doesn't have to be retrained up. I was starting to wonder if I could transfer it to my new house if he didn't like how much it covered his lamppost
Thank you Jenny! This video is great!
Jenny, when are you NOT gardening with Creekside? Are you sometimes gardening with someone else? 😊
Just funny you started saying this, it’s not something you have done always, but something recents….
Great video though, I have started implementing Clematis like that last year and it looks really nice 👌 😊 just remember that Clematis need shade for there base/the lower part of the plants… I hope yours will thrive and shade them self out when they grow fuller… my beds are much more full planted in so it’s not an issue.. I do that, so I don’t have to do weeding so much.. if you don’t want to weed, plant close 😀
I've had my battery hedge trimmer for many years for shrubs, perennials, and even some roses. It looks ratty for a short while, then they fill in. You can't even tell. What a great game changer!
Can any clematis be planted as a groundcover?
Too bad they've canceled Spring in North Dakota! More snow expected this week. The only flowers I'm enjoying are the ones in your videos. Hope this finds you well. Happy Easter!
Hi Jenny, finally made
it to your green house just loved it ! You and your husband are very friendly and very helpful thank you for all you do.
I hope I can get some of these. They’ll look amazing! I love my potted clematis, so to have another type is great.
