It's always sad to lose plants, but It's definitely a lesson to learn. With your help and advice we should lose a lot less! Thank you for your Videos.
Love this format 🤣
I thought you were having a laugh with the other video until I realised it was a flip side for each 😂 I've lost loads of stuff, some I will try again, others i will be crossing off the list for my garden! 😢
My dicksonia antartica even with a layer of straw and then leaves ontop of that the center froze solid after the temp dropped to minus 7 and did not get above freezing for 4 days ,its also killed my 5 pheonix palms and my 5 washingtonia palms all protected as I always do every year ,all my musa bananas and canas and elephant ears all dead even though they were protected in pots in my shed 😢😢😢
One good thing is though I have plenty of hardy palms to replace them Chris so all is not lost ,I have loads of 5 year old trachys of every different species or strain or culture what ever you call it or name it I have it 😅 and loads of other cold hardy palms ,sabals ,jubae chilensis, brahea armata, brahea capitata, needle palms ,carandy palms ,vulcanos ,cerifera !
I will try and perfect my protection techniques as well 😊
I forgot to say I already y have 9 trachycarpus fortunei palms in the ground, ranging from 5ft to 9ft trunks and 9 chaemarops humilis palms in the ground with 3ft to 5ft trunks ,main trunks with multiple suckers, so I have good base to start ,and I have 5 cordyline indivisa trees atthe back of the garden ,the trunks on them are over ten foot tall with multiple heads ,I also have a 5 ft tetrapanax papyrifer rex but I am waiting too see if it's going to grow back ,its wood and solid no softness but the growing head fell off 😢
My side of the big pond was very cold too, my palms are very sad but hoping there is some life left. It’s still freezing overnight 😥 so have not unwrapped my bananas yet🤞
Gutted about the aloe striatula and agave americana variegata. These will both be going in my new raised arid bed soon. I'll have to get the cover organised for winter!
how low get in you this winter?
I’m trying to work out this year. Lots of garden plant damage this year but generally the temps haven’t been terrible. We’ve just had those 3 weeks of solid cold and then the snow. I wonder if the dry, sunny February has contributed in some way to making the plants more susceptible for when the cold weather came back and then the snow.
In my garden -12 celsius ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
How is your jubaea looking ?
I have been putting a very large black plastic pot over large phormuims during the snow/ super cold snaps and seem to come out of it without damage fyi a tip I found out about last year. Works a lot better than trying to ponytail them or cover them with fleece
Would the mild winters previous not acclimatise plants to a less hardy state where one bad year in say four or five would cause carnage in the garden?
You must move to the tropics 😂😂
