Welcome gardeners! Join me today for my week 12 Master Gardeners training recap! This week was all about weed identification and management. It was actually incredibly interesting and now as I’m driving around town I can identify all the weeds growing on the side of the roads. My new special talent! 😆 Enjoy!

  1. Sometimes honestly you just have to be impressed by weeds. They have just evolved to beat any circumstances. The year I had my first kid I just couldn't get out in the garden for a few months and bindweed took over my garden. After 3 years of constantly beating it back its much more manageable. But some days I'd come out and weed it, and by the next day its already back. You just got to nod and be impressed by your adversary.

  2. I can’t believe you’re almost done! That’s exciting. Congratulations on the progress.

  3. I just use the Google app and click the camera in the search window. Almost 100% accurate. Plant finder apps never seem to work well for me.

  4. Rather than digging up all the weeds in your borrowed flower field, have you considered the “no dig” method where you cover the entire area with cardboard and build it up with compost and soil? 🌱🌱🌱👩‍🌾🌱🌱🌱😁

  5. I love these videos so much! They are so incredibly useful! Thank you for sharing. I’m sad the class is almost over! You are such a inspiration!🌱🌸

  6. Timely post Janey!❤ I dug up this one flowering thing that sprung up all over last year in an uncultivated part of my yard. It has. Long reddish taproot, yellow flowers on sometimes reddish stems. I identified it (can't find the name now but similar to amaranth, but a wild one) but decided to get rid of it to plant some Hydrangea Paniculatas there in back of my Lilac.
Anyway, I've been doing that between rain and today was my 2nd day! Tomorrow I hope I'll be done. I dig down the length of my pitchfork and some are rooted down further than that! I just spray killer directly on those pieces and hope it takes care of them. If not, I can identify them when they bloom and paint more killjuice on the leaves then. 🥵😵‍💫😉🥴

  7. One year I bought bulk compost from a reputable company and it was full of weed seeds! They were weeds that I didn't have in my garden before, but I have them all the time now. ☹️

  8. Thank you so much for the info on the plant identifier apps. Enjoy your vidieos and have learned many things from you.

  9. I going to be so sad when your Master Garden class is over. I’m learning so much! Thanks for sharing Janey. 💐

  10. Good for you Janie for respecting your boundaries and staying clear from controversial subjects. 👏👏I’m sure going to miss your Master Gardeners recaps when they are over. So much good info!

  11. Janey, I have enjoyed every episode of your master gardener training. So informative and interesting. Do you think we can be junior master gardeners after taking your online “course” these 12 weeks? Haha! Seriously, so excited that you are at the end of your coursework and have learned and taught us so much. Excited to see or hear about your upcoming garden tour. Will someone be videoing it for you and us? Or will that be too difficult with everyone there?

  12. Are the weeds you mentioned native or non native? Sometimes I wonder how they got here and are taking over so much!

  13. Hi Janey 🌺 How the days go by quickly and you in the end of master garden .l will miss your beautiful lessons and good infomation about weeds.
The common mallow ,we take the leaves and made very tasty recipe . Have awonderful day .🌻🌺🌻

  14. I really like Mallows 😂 we are in Southern California and they grow GREAT. It’s drought tolerant and there are some native varieties the nurseries sell. You can find some really great colored flowers.

  15. I'm so excited! My county has just announced that it's Master Gardener course will be starting in September. I wish I didn't have to wait so long, though. Applications will be taken at the end of April.

  16. Excellent information. Im going to be tackling a fern plant that spreads by rhizomes and don't want a fern garden anymore so I started last year by just pulling them out at much as I could but thinking I may have to get more aggressive with something more this year. The garden was pretty but the minute we get a heavy rain the entire area looks completely over run and not pretty. So I will keep going this year with my eradication program.

  17. I definitely couldn’t have an YouTube channel. I would be saying some ugly words to people with negative, mean comments!

  18. Im so glad you posted this video Janet ,I did a new flower bed recently and I havd tons of dollarweeds omg it’s crazy I put a layer of newspaper undef thd mulch to prevent weeds which has been working great throughout my gardens but this area in particular just is nog working!!I looked undef thd newspapers and there’s tons of roots spread everywhere from the dollarweed ,I’ve pulled them all out and they keep growing,I don’t know what else to do ,I gong want to use something like it’s suggested and kill my plants ,do u havd any suggestions?

  19. Does any one know what the name of those weeds that look like a clover is? Those are my nemesis right now. 😖

  20. Here on gulf coast pensacola fl I’m dealing all the time with what I think is a perineal weed called JONSON GRASS IT RUNS…so thanks so much for your info great!! Thanks so much!!!!
