I've had no luck with peppers for the 2nd year despite soaking the seed with tea, only about two came up lol The Echium blue bedders are great they flower all summer and autumn attracting lots of bees
This year everything is so much behind for me, the toms literally had flowers last year, but now 2 set of true leaves only, same story for pepper, aubergine etc
Don't give up Ivan, it's disheartening when you have put the effort in. I've got tomatoes and cucumber seedlings in the house for at least another month unless the weather miraculously changes for the best. Have a good day, ♥
Thanks for the update Ivan, hope the peppers will be OK, fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing.
I hope those peppers left will thrive and grow for you now. Mine are already outside but I need to bring them in for tonight as we will dip back into the high 30's again tonight. I overwintered a bell pepper and an eggplant and can't wait for it to stay warm enough to get them planted outside. Usually our last cold snap is right at Easter so I'm waiting for after then to replant them in the garden.
This is my routine. Peppers do not like acid soil. I almost lost an entire crop of seedlings one year due to "acid" potting mix. A local pepper guru told me I needed to transplant into a different type of mix (which she recommended) so I did. I took off as much of the old soil as I could and transplanted. It took a week before I could see that they were doing so much better. I saved the whole crop. I also don't use mix with fertilizer but when I water I also mix in some fish fertilizer (very weak) once a week. I sprinkle cinnamon on the soil when the seeds are first planted. Prevents damping off. I also put them on heat mats. So sorry you are having a problem. It's hard when it's peppers because they take so long. I hope you find a solution for sure.
Great stuff Ivan. Keep up the hard work greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thank you for not giving up on the little guys. They will surprise us sometimes. A little new nutrition can do wonders. I use a little clear cover at night to give a little extra warmth in their transition at night. I call it a little plant hug. Thinking positive.
I germinated my hot chilli peppers indoors and they are STILL indoors, and they have also done very poor. Out of six potential plants, it looks like I may only end up with three or two. I think it was simply too cold even indoors. Oh well. I had a huge crop last year, but this is a year for other things.
Just taking a break from garden I’m freezing 🥶 and backs in agony, watched while having a cuppa, Another great vid , thank you Ivan
Potting on is a new term for me but very useful since I planted a pepper seedling in a big container and I can see it struggling. Ivan, can I still pull it up and plant it in a smaller pot?
Also, my 3-year old pepper is in a pot with a kale cutting. Can they grow together well?
Thanks!
Hi Ivan, have you ever tried using home made fertiliser by putting potato peels in water for a few days and then watering the plants with the mixture? Maybe worth trying it on one or two of the pepper plants?
Ivan them 4 reapers i put in 12 days ago I was about put them in the bin but all 4 popped up last night 😀🥵
You do realise that just because the 'clocks went forward' it doesn't actually give us any more or less daylight don't you? You do realise that we only gain daylight as the earth turns on it's axis and the equator moves closer to the sun, our respective seasons change. Just a thought.
Hi Ivan,
do you think that is a cause from the compost used?
look like it.
Maybe it is not suitable for papers?
Thanks Ivan, for the update it's a shame about your peppers mate so I hope the rest do well. Take care and all the best. Stevie
