  1. Hi Brian! Long-time watcher. Question: we have been trying to grow veges and herbs in large, black pots (24”x24”) they are located in almost full sun, and it gets HOT here in the summer. I’m not having great luck and have tried everything I’ve watched you do. Someone mentioned the pots are getting too hot and burning the roots. Thoughts? I can send photos? Thank you thank you!!

  2. Orange Hat! They can be grown in a 6 in pot and are wonderful little pops of tomato flavor. They are quite productive as well. I am growing one in my IDOO right now as well along with a MicroTom.

  3. Wonderful information. I am growing Roma tomatoes in a 7 gal grow pot. The 7 gal pots were cheaper than the 5 gal, so I figured it wont make a difference. As I've commented before this is my first year growing a garden and I'm in Phoenix AZ where it's warm/hot pretty much all season long.

  4. Thank you for all the info! I grow most of my veggies in containers except for tomatoes. I may try a container for a couple this year. My favorite cherry tomato is Midnight Snack which needs to be inground because it gets huge!

  5. I do about 40 20gal plastic pots all San Marzano… on my deck I grow a bunch of cherry style tomatoes and a ton of peppers.

  6. This will be my first year growing in containers and am curious to how it will work out. Thank you for the tips and keep up the good work.

  7. I dont see the links you mentioned here. The only think I see in the description is the first sentence even thou I click on "see more". I'm sure I've seen them since I've watched just about every video you post, I'd still like to watch them.

  8. Was kind of hoping you'd get into grow bags here, I have my Sun Golds already planted and doing well in them next to a trellis.

  10. I never thought of turning tomatoe cage upside down. Thanks Brian.
    QUESTIONS:
1- Could you have taken suckers from your old tomato plants and rooted them instead of staring from seeds?
2- last year my neighbor grew yellow cherry tomatoes but they had worms inside. Why? I never grew yellow tomatoes as I am not a big fan.

  11. I grow almost all my tomatoes in earth boxes. they do really well in them, much more productive than in the ground. supporting them is the hard part but i have some wire frames that fit in the boxes and it mostly works…

  12. Hi Brian
I downsized from 20 gallon containers to 5 gallon buckets last year and saw no reduction in production. Last year I did celebrity, bush early girl, cherry and Roma in 5 gallon.

  13. Hi! I grow ALL my veggies and flowers in pots and I have a ton – 4 driveways full.
It’s taken me a lot of experimenting but I have it cased – for the most part. I use the large recycling blue bins – with lots of drainage holes. I grow Primo Red Tomatoes and my crop is Huge. They will give me two crops on each tomato – and weather dependent – three. And yes – fertilizer and watering is done differently in a pot. But if all you have is a driveway – then you can case the pot growing. I have lots of other tips – too many to type here. I live in Southern Saskatchewan – Canada – so our season is relatively short.

  14. I don't think I'll grow oblong paste tomatoes in pots again. They seem to be particularly vulnerable to blossom end rot and it's very hard to keep a potted tomato from drying out. Inconsistent soil moisture leads to poor calcium movement from the soil to the tomato and thus to blossom end rot. I've got 2 Sungolds in pots this year and am really looking forward to them!

  15. For the first time last year we tried a slightly different method of growing in buckets. Instead of drilling holes in the bottom we drilled holes on the side about 3 inches from the bottom. Before adding our soil mixture we put in a thick layer of seaweed. When water pooled at the bottom the seaweed became liquid fertilizer. We had the best tomato, eggplant and peppers ever.
