Garden Redesign – In this video I show how we are starting to redesign part of the garden this spring. We have shrubs and perennials coming and we have also started lots of seed for this as well.

This is such a great idea – kudos
Loved the drone panning in! Good job!
Thanks Jim, it’s nice to see some trees with green leaves on them! ❄️💚🙃
Wow.. amazing upload friend..
Oh doesn’t that look lovely with the compost on the ground! ❄️💚🙃
Using tomatoes as a screen, I llove it! 💚🍅💚
Anyone else wish Jim had bought a bigger lot? (:
Thanks for link to cart..we used to have exact same one and we left it behind when we moved…I want another one it was best little cart I ever used
Back in California (Silicon Valley), landscape interest was usually provided by flowering plants, nearly year-round. Here in Central Texas, the hot months are brutal for many flowering plants, so we've learned about evergreen shrubs with color interest mainly in their leaves. I've become a huge fan of Abelias and Nandinas, and that started with your past videos. Thank you for the inspiration.
THank you for the overhead view it really puts the yard into perspective. And I'm liking the idea over blending the vegetables with the rest of that garden. I will be watching with keen interest.
Just realised you’re left handed Jim 😊
What a great idea! Simply moving those cattle panels is going to make such a difference but still provide the support your tomato plants need. Sometimes we have to take a step back and think outside of the box. I'm trying to do that in my yard and see how I can change things up. Thanks for the inspiration!
Cool drone footage!
🙋
I think you need a “little breather” (‘Airplane’ reference) 😂
Do you ever miss your old house garden ?😂
has southern living discontinued "empress of china" dogwood?
Great video.. love the soil cube compost.. great stuff .. Change is nice in the garden ..just to see what works and what doesn't . Soil cube is loaded with mycorrhizal fungi..
🌱🪴🌱LOOKING GOOD‼️🌱🪴🌱
This was such a satisfying video to watch! Thanks for sharing your thought process and progress.
Gardening design is somewhat of a hit or miss thing, but changes can be fun.
What an incredibly cool opening shot! LOVE the drone footage, and your video, as always. 7b near Atlanta, so your chores are very helpful with my to-do list.
So pretty and fresh!
Holly said no thanks to the loud banging 😂
Redesign applies both to homes and gardens. I’m not a professional, but after a few years living in the space, I start to feel how the area can be more greatly used. Thanks for showing us the redesign of the garden. It’s fun to see you expand the garden and reduce the grass. I’m learning and leaning on you to keep inspiring me!
Very inspiring to me, somebody who’s new and still figuring things out as a Gardener. I appreciate your straightforward approach, and the fact your videos feel like a conversation and not just instructions! 🌱
Gosh. Now I want a pink distylium and a drone.
Question are those rigid cattle panels? What are the posts you used? They don’t look like Tposts? Did you just hammer them in? Looked too easy
The reason I’m redesigning a garden is that we moved into an existing house in November. Fortunately our new house is in SC, a Soil3 state. At this point, I am spending more money on Soil3 than plants. My 1st project is installing trees in the backyard since there were none when we moved here. In the fall I will start on the front yard where there is more shade and the possibility of Japanese maples. Another fortunate circumstance is that the wonderful Mr Maple nursery is only 40 miles north of our house. This project is going to be fun.
I'm in Denver 5b, so all I can do is watch. Thanks for the video!
Love the drone footage!
I’m in the progress of starting a veggie/flower garden in my backyard. I’ve got raised beds for the veggies because my neighbors said you can’t grow veggies due to the rabbits and squirrels. Last year I got an elevated planter and the tomatoes did so well I was harvesting 2-3 pounds a day of cherry tomatoes. It got to the point that I was giving them away to anyone who would take them. I dried them even to save space. Which is a great idea with cherry tomatoes. I dried them out in my oven. This year we have two 4×4 raised beds, one is already full of radish, carrots, and beets. The elevated 2×6 on the patio has peas and even though it’s been freezing at night here my caseload peas are still looking great. Jim is your garden getting blasted by the cold every night like ours? We are in 7b TN. Anyone else dealing with plants waking up everywhere and then the temps plummeting at night? I don’t know how long my flowers can take it. I can’t uncover till it warms up at 10am. I just hope they still get enough sun.
Another excellent and humbling video by brother Jim and sister Steph.
I like the new design! Can you show us the veg mix side by side with the regular compost? I may switch over just because I think it would be lighter. I have to get them in the small bags because I’m on a slope out front. Just makes it easier.
"A big hug of tomatoes" LOL! I want one of those!
I have snow blooming in my garden from a nor easter the other day the other day.
Hi Jim …. If you want to incorporate your vegetables with your flower garden, why dont you just plant some of the veggies here and there between the perennials? Just askin! I love your videos.
Yes, love the done intro and fade away at the end. The garden is right now. Your probably thinking "this is how it should have been." We get so busy that the inspirations dont come all at once. You inspired me to re-think my garage layout since we have two more frost warnings this weekend.
Love the “hug” veg garden 😂
My big yellow bag came with nice loamy soil on the top. Middle was sandy like what I have. Lower down was clay and rocks. I hope your bag is all loam.
I love the drone footage, every time you do it. I often pause it to really get a good look. I always love seeing above a garden.
Love the overhead view! What kind of fencing is that? I have been looking for something like that?
