My peppers are the same as ginger… They love the heat but not the sun. Luckily in Southern swampy Virginia we have no shortage of long season heat and humidity. So, I can them in nearly full shade and get wonderful results!
Holy cow .. You have so many vertical towers!
"Delicious compost" Don't think I've ever heard compost described as delicious 👍😆
Thanks Gary for sharing your tips.
so last year I went through a separation and the place that I live in the trailer park got sold and there's a realtor who wants to sell the place that I rent. so last fall I got very salty about it. not literally. but I seed bombed the entire yard and was taking plants out that were important plants because they didn't know if I would have to move. and now I know that my yard is so messed up and I don't really know what to do about that. do you have any ideas or sympathy? I don't f*ing know 😂😩😭
Unusualy cold and wet in my part of Arizona this year. 11 inches of rain so far this year. Your garden looks good. Birds are a big problem here, they pluck things as soon as they sprout
How often is it necessary to add compost through the season?
Oh boy! It's looking fabulous. I'm zone 6a and can hardly wait to get my hands in the soil! Thanks for all you do. Cheers!, from Ohio.
I just bought some 12in deep 6ft long beds. Do you think it would work to just fill them with compost or do you think it is necessary to add the perlite and vermiculite?
QUESTION! My raised beds are entering their 5th year. I just had them tested for the first time by the state extension service. The macro nutrients are all "very high, above optimum," and the micronutrients are all "adequate or sufficient." The only fertilization they've ever had were homemade compost, organic granular, and alfalfa. The recommendation is that I grow this years crops with only a 1-0-0 fertilizer and not add compost. I'm fine with all that, but the beds are now about 4 inches low. Is there a way to fill them without raising the nutrient level?
I just came in from taking advantage of all this wonderful rain — I gave my little garden (18×18) another little sprinkling of organic 4-4-4 and another total covering of alfalfa pellets
I like those metal raised beds.
Gives a nice appearance
Will definitely be looking into them
Thanks for sharing 👍🏽
Good work. Im gonna raise a few areas now once rain stops. Have a beer Teach! Cheers
I love the all purpose mix recipe, Gary! It has saved me a fortune this year and in seed starting mix! Thank you!
I’ve been potting up all the volunteer tomatoes🍅that have grown from my homemade compost. I’ve got 8 so far and 2 flowering already.
I topped my beds with a thick layer of leaves. Is it okay to mix it into the soil before adding compost, etc?
The first bed I filled dropped a good 8-10 inches since last year. It’s a 30 inch tall bed so I’m going to dig out most of the “good” soil on top and refill the bottom with wood chips and leaves sticks etc then put the good soil back on top with the fertilizers and such. Just can’t afford to add another 8-10 inches again.
