Launched in 2012, Edible Garden City is the brainchild of Bjorn Low who has singlehandedly championed the “Grow Your Own Food” movement in land-scarce and import-dependent Singapore. Bjorn believes that growing a kitchen garden will reconnect urbanites to nature, cultivate a sense of community and more crucially, conserve natural resources. He heads a team of driven and like-minded individuals with more than 15 years of farming, award-winning design and construction experience under their belt.
The social enterprise hopes to educate the public on sustainable natural growing methods, resource recycling and waste minimisation. More than that, they have also embarked on social projects and empowered the mentally-challenged workforce to be part of their farm production team. They have organised and held organic farm training at Pathlight school, Spectra School, SG Enable and the Sharing Garden at the Salvation Army. Through his truly inspiring series of online workshops, Bjorn seeks to pass on his knowledge and skills of creating and maintaining a garden to those who hanker for the therapeutic, if not humanising effects of reaping what you sow.
Through the first series of Protégé online classes, Bjorn teaches apartment dwellers and office workers the most productive methods and the finer points of growing healthy greens in places with little to no light.
