Here is the main way I protect my cool weather crops from a prolonged frost and heavy freeze. A period of 4-8 hours of freeze, in the mid to lower 20’s during the night, is what I consider prolonged and heavy.

I'm trying out a hoop house with a frost blanket over my greens. Low 30's for the next week in my Zone 6 garden.
Great ideas. Especially like the idea about the tomato cages.
I love that you get right to the point of the video. Garden looks great.

You cracked me up with your comment about learning to lay down the tomato cages after 24 years of gardening! 😂 I understand.
A neighbor gave me a roll of welded fencing. I just cut big pieces that are U shaped, and cut every other spine so they can be stuck into the ground, either vertically or horizontally. I use them early on their sides to put frost covers over, and later I turn them upright to support plants. Works well for me.
Could you use clear plastic instead of the traps ?.
I’m at work before the air temperature’s rises to above freezing.
Tonight it will be down in the twenties! First day of Spring, mind you. Last night low thirties, tomorrow low thirties. I hope my fig trees will bounce back, a few stem tips got zapped despite being covered. I'm so ready for late week warm up at night.
From where do you buy your perlite in bulk
Great idea to use the tomato cages to support the tarps!
Do blueberry bushes do ok? Mine started budding but then temps got down to low 20s and I think high teens now. The bushes were too tall for me to cover without damaging.
