  1. That price was good last year bonney plants were $4.78 here. I'm curious what they will be this year.

  2. With the space you got out there you need to be making massive compost piles. Look for 18 day compost and see how quick you can churn out new soil for your garden. These prices are killing us!

  3. I have voles. Got raised beds made and so far they’re not messing with it. Homestead heart used noise makers and I got two

  4. I live in apartment complex. When I walked the complex watch out for discarded pots and dirt. My neighbors and I share seeds. We split the cost of 6 packs because they are cheaper. We also share cuttings and fertilizer.

  5. There are many hacks available online. A bag of soil is under $10 and seeds can be bought at the dollar store. Cardboard boxes, milk jugs, a small box of Miracle Grow. If you have a sunny window, you can start your own seeds to make plants to transplant. Potatoes can grow in a cardboard box between layers of straw and dirt. I harvest a potato eye by putting the smallest potato in my bag from the store in a paper bag and wait. Eyes grow, then plant them in the cardboard box. Cheap. I grow green beans indoors, use four seeds per grow cycle, pull plants, then plant four more seeds. I use a cheap LED indoor grow lamp, cost $20 on Amazon. A single packet of seeds lasted me over a year. I use two cabbage seeds per season. I freeze green beans or pick and cook them the same day, and with cabbage, I dry the leaves with a Walmart dehydrator that cost $30. Then store them in a dark can to use in soups and rice dishes, they last about two years, dehydrated. I understand many live in apartments and can never grow enough food to live on, but adding even a small amount of veggies into our diets is healthier than not.

  6. Great points on propagation paying off in the long run …a video showing a lot of different ways would be fantastic for those gardening on a tight budget. Some plants can be started from cuttings…and we all need to find out which ones. Letting some of our crops go to seed is a must.

  7. I'm finding that the ginger at my grocery stores have the sprouts CUT OFF!!!! That's so upsetting to me!

  8. I look close at the starters in big box stores. Some containers have 2 or 3 plants growing in the container. That cuts down alot on the per plant cost. Find the right container and it winds up being 5.68 for 3 plants instead of 1.

  9. Every fruit and vegetable I buy I SAVE the SEEDS. I clean then dry them & store properly for future planted. I been knew about how to save seeds from My Late-Father who was a farmer & he used to take Me & My Brothers to his Parents farm in the 1970s.
I live in Snow York State, some tropical seeds I can save, but not all tropical seeds can be saved long term.
Many tropical seeds must be planted as soon as possible after harvesting if You have the climate or climate controlled.

  10. Take the time NOW, to fail and learn. save seeds. plant the groc store taters. do not buy plants. compost. harvest soil and leaves in the forest. collect clean fall leaves for free fertilizer and mulch. make seed starting mix. only buy the few things for seed starting mix like perlite. use a solocup with a hole for drainage, instead of pots. carryout containers recycled. forget focus on tomatoes. Grow potatoes. sweet potatoes( you only need 1to grow slips). garlic, onions , salad greens, sprout and grow microgreens, andin a few years you will succeed. learn what foods are survival crops and focus on them. suckers are amazing too, king. you are so right. Finally, although seeds may lose germination rate slowly, dont believe that they EXPIRE! Turmeric? just planted my first crop ever and ginger. They CANT BE EASIER THAN GARLIC AND SWEET POTATOES, can they? CAN THEY? Thanks!

  11. I didn't mean to scold you. 😁 I still love y'all! I'm glad you're breaking it down further so newbies understand…that's all I wanted. Some seed packets are already $5. I will pay that NOW for certain varieties or hybrids, but I also grow OP/heirlooms and saving seeds here and there so I know how to be more sustainable in the future if/when it's needed. I've also started working harder on my compost bin, learning how to propagate free plants, and trying cheaper/natural ways to fertilize. Like you've explained, there are ways to save money. Now is the time to learn how to be more sustainable.

  12. Prices have never stopped rising due to USA cash is "Fiat" ever since exPres. Nixon finalized removing U$D from the silver standard, beginning with exPres. F.D. Roosevelt removing U$D from Gold Standard.

  17. Growing garlic was the first time I ever felt successful as an experienced gardener. Don't get me wrong, I had some beginners luck with pumpkins my first year, but the garlic came after years of failures! 😆

  18. I bought heatmizer tomatoes in the fall and I had several that the squirrels tasted. I just buried them in the ground at the time. I have hundreds of tomatoes plants that popped up. Let's see if the bugs will eat them all . 😂

  19. Praying for people with kids that God will cover all with his love and mercy , the Lord has the last word always , meditate in God he is with us .

  20. That’s why when I go to Home Depot to check out their plants, I almost always say, “highway robbery” to myself🤨

  21. We have a garden center in the Houston area that has starts for $1.99. I always look for plants that may have 2 plants in one.👍🏽

  22. I didn’t hear if you mentioned this, so sorry if I missed it, but for those who maybe can’t afford seeds or plants, I have heard that some public libraries keep free seeds for the public. Also, in lots of free giving and garden groups on Facebook, people will share what they have. P.S. love your spirit and your videos ❤ sorry I’m often doing other things and don’t take time to comment or like, but I would hope I’m adding to your watch hours? Sometimes I add videos to a list and just let them play. But it makes me sad when people say subscribers aren’t doing this or that. I try to support channels and people I love.

  23. I can't help myself! Gotta put some food in the ground! Save the seeds people. I appreciate your advice sir. Just planted some ginger and potatoes. Garlic is my job today because I forgot it in the fridge, but it's going in the dirt today.😊
