Even though it’s early in the season we are starting to plant the greenhouse plants! Even Tomatoes!! It’s worth the risk to us for an early harvest.

****** About Living Traditions Homestead ******
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

I "wintersow" cabbage and spinach in my greenhouse in april when the snow has melted enough to get there. Just sprinkle them in a container and then shuffle snow over it. Then they grow when they feel themselves that the time is right and get nice and sturdy. Growing veggies in the winter is out of the question, then I need to heat up the greenhouse and that is a huge cost (and difficult to get there because of the snow). I really wish we would have a little warmer climate but on the other hand we have not many pests, no slugs except field slugs and they are easy to deal with. Carrot fly and cabbage worms can be a little annoying but if you cover the plants in time it is OK. Looking forward to see the biggest and smallest tomato in the world! I had something called "curren-tomato" one year, with fruits in the size of very small grapes, that was fun!
I already had to replace 3 tomato plants for jumping the gun . Love my maters!!!! Weird weather in southern California this year and they got frostbite after our last frost date. Back on track now.
Thanks for taking us along .
What is your growing zone?
Which GS greenhouse do you have? Think I'm ready for a big one!
zone 7b here. i've already started onions, celery, broccoli and luffa plants. i am getting the itch to plant, but need to wait until the end of March to start the other seeds. Hopefully with all this snow, we've been getting in the west, we will have a good growing season. I am looking forward for a better year of growing, eating and preserving this year!!
We are in NZ so our summer garden is just coming to a end, however still heaps of water melon and rockmelon!
Is that porch behind you on the house?? That's huge! I can't wait to see it all when done! ❤ Love the sprout house plant labels!! ❤
I'm growing some sweet potato starts that were growing on a couple of my sweet potatoes I had bought to eat. They are in my kitchen window next to my ivy plant . I have a storage tub ready for when it's safe for them to be planted outside. Have not started any others yet. I've been making compost all winter. Can't have a green house where I live. Love all your videos. Thank you for all your tips !
Hi, thanks for your interesting videos ❤️

Busting an Old Tomato Myth. Have you ever been told that the hairs on tomatoes will turn into roots if you bury them? Nope, it's not true. What are the hairs on a tomato plant for? They reduce transpiration, protect delicate tissue from sun or frost, capture moisture, and interfere with pest movement or feeding.
In 2021, I purchased some Kellogg organic potting mix along with other brands. I used it in raised beds and containers. No problem. In 2022, it was a different experience. My indoor seedlings stopped growing. I ended up having to add plant food very early. The Kellogg mix that was in outdoor containers hindered plants from producing and growing. Eventually, I had to add compost, peat moss, and organic fertilizer to this potting mix for it to be useable. When I watered containers with that bad mix, the water that drained off was black for over a month. My trust in that product is gone.
we are still looking at snow banks.. 🙁 and dreaming of warmer weather… going to be starting my peppers and tomatoes soon.. this week and hoping
Love you guys.
Yeah for you. Pray you get a great harvest!🎉
My husband and I just started our seeds this past Monday and they are in our little indoor greenhouse. It's been less than a week and we've got germination. It's so exciting to watch. This is our first year ever. So exciting!!!
This is what I’ve found as well, used to overwinter peppers outside when I lived in AZ and we’d have a few freezes every year.
try playing music in your greenhouse…….do it……opera and or southern rock….plants love music
I will be starting my third year of gardening this spring. I have 10 raised garden beds and the first year. I used the Kellogg soil and had really good success. The second year I bought more to fill in the beds, and things did not grow well and I had a bad outbreak of all kinds of fungus and mushrooms. Not sure what’s going to happen this year I’ve added amendments.
Grow eazy leaf or salanova lettuce. You will never go back. Really slow to bolt. Totally worth it the extra cash for the seeds. They are the best tasting lettuces too, hands down.
Do you sell produce at a local farmers market, if so, which one, and will you be there at the end of April?
Thank you for being so inspirational! Love watching 🙂
I'm living in zone 7b: Upstate S.C. Your seedings are a lot farther ahead than mine. I'm trying to follow your planting directions for planting seeds and caring for seedlings, but mine never look as good as yours. Chelsea from the You Tube channel, " Little Mountain Ranch" ( BC) plants Dwarf tomatoes in her grow room. So far they look great and have blooms. You might want to try this tomato type for early tomatoes.
🙏🏻❤️😃👍🏻
Great inspiration. Just finished a 3' x 20' raised bed inside my hoop house. Was considering another on other side but y'all changed my mind. Going with large pots . I'm in NC, so along with Kevin, WHY NOT get early start with yummy homegrown tomatoes?! Ken Billman
I really enjoy all that you’re doing and all of your content. My question is just getting ready to redo my tubs that have planting mix in it and they have a tremendous amount of ants. Your ideas
Such great tips
Just started my greenhouse with raised beds. Small to start 🙂 seedlings are coming along nicely. Started a bunch of different veggies and herbs to just learn – tomatoes, onions of a few varieties, leeks, carrots, were the first to get seeded, and a couple of days ago just started some cauliflower, romanseco broccoli (fun variety), cantaloupe, zucchini of two different kinds, and herbs (basil and dill are my favorites). I'm excited to learn the processes and watching you guys give me hope for a nice planting season.
I love seeing you guys in tshirts. Warm weather in Missouri means warm weather is coming to Michigan.
Indiana. Learned to put a crock pot with water in an indoor greenhouse I got from Rural King. Also, lesson not to touch the plastic of the greenhouse with the crock pot which melted a hole in it. So, no lid and on low, gave the warmth and humidity needed to bust those seeds out and boy did they! Celery, even! So now I am scrambling to get a shelf in the living room to get shop lights on for them. This is a win for sure! God bless.
Awesome job
Hi guys! Just wondering where you get your big planting tubes (some say Crystlix on them)? Thanks!!
