This documentary reveals how the Chicago area was transformed into a well-oiled production machine, with every man, woman, and child contributing to the war effort. Through personal reminiscences, declassified films, period stills and posters, A City At War: Chicago explores how a mutually beneficial relationship between FDR and Chicago’s powerful Democratic Mayor Ed Kelly helped to win the war.

Charles Bowden born July 20, 1945 in Joliet and spent his youth in Chicago, in the aftermath of this history, when people still wanted to be in cities.
Compare this history to the descent in Chicago's fortunes in recent years…
I like how this documentary acts like Chicago was some how different or special because the entire city and it's citizens were mobilized for war. The exact same thing was done in city's all over the country. Chicago did win the war for us all by themselves, even if that's what the producers of this want you to think.
Chicago, the most politically corrupt city in the USA for over a century.
And now Chicago is Africa 2.0
THE terrible DEVASTATED WORLD AFTER WWW "2" WAS SO BAD! NOW, LET'S PULL OURSELVES UP AND CONTINUE FOR OUR CHILDREN, please…
This is relatively current Chicago produced film. The speaking is from the 60s or 70s Bill Kurtis was a familiar voice in my growing up in Chicago.
Be bery bery quiet. We are hunting Russians,
This is amazing as a life long Chicago resident! I’ve taken quite a few Chicago History courses over the years, but there is something different about seeing old footage, propaganda and of course, learning a bunch of stuff I never knew!
My only wish is that they would say what streets some of these places were or where they used to be located in the city.
Wow. As though no other American cities contributed…
We could be in the same place today with China and Russia
One does, and probably always has,
applauded the innovative genius that had made the USA a truly worthy victor over the suffering people in and around Germany,
many of them too tightly tethered by their oath pledged to their Führer at the very beginning of doom,
when it was time to really help themselves to the world in a manner demonstrated by the United Kingdom. 😏
Missed out the Henry Ford thing…firestone…IBM…
Hey, Bill Kurtis, why the scare warning? This is a history documentary. Only a moron needs to be told it contains historical footage. Do you assume I'm a moron?
The story of two cities : Detroit and Hiroshima.
Hiroshima destroyed by nuclear bomb. Detroit destroyed by Democrats (neo marxists) .
Today Hiroshima is a thriving ,flourishing and growing city.
Also today, Detroit , ruled for decades by one party (Democrats) , from 3.5 mil. residents , has now less than 400.000 and continues to die.
The moral of the story of two cities is : The LEFT is more toxic, dangerous and devastating , than a nuclear bomb.
Everything that the Left doctrine touches , shrivels and eventually, dies.
Is that NPRs Bill Kurtis narrating? The voice of Wait! Wait!
Now the war is actually in Chicago. The mayor cares more about letting pedophiles indoctrinate kids into their sicko world than having any kind of pride in the city. Disgusting
Frank Verano. Pearl Harbor survivor.
You are not forgotten.
Wait, I thought the parties swapped, so FDR was a conservative. Can't have it both ways.
Enjoyed very much

Insanity at it's finest
This film is such a treat! My dad was born in 1927 to Lithuanian immigrants in Chicago. He did really well despite the alcoholism and seeing his mother get beaten. He went to Kelly High School in Brighton Park. He headed the paper drives during WW2. He graduated with honors and was the first to go to college. Loyola of course since he was brainwashed with Catholicism. Sadly he married my mother in the mid-50's. She never loved him but definately loved his looks, reputation, and all the other materialistic attributes. Their marriage was awful and they had 6 kids. My dad always loved the witch but she didn't return it. She came with a substantial dowry. They never divorced and their marriage soured. They couldn't divorce because they were Catholic. My dad deserved soooo much better. Their marriage was over sometime in the 70's. Wish they divorced. Sadly my siblings emulated the unhealthy marriage model and Catholicism. Their kids are alcoholics and dysfunctional. But oh you betcha….they are devout Catholics and look great at church. They certainly do keep their appearances up in church. They are Jesus-addicted.
Well presented
