The vast majority of my gardening style is all about breaking “rules” and pushing the mainstream boundaries, but for beginner gardeners, there are a few rules to use as a foundation to ensure that you get started on the right track to growing and abundance of food in your vegetable garden, and that is what this video is all about. I hope you find this helpful for your growing journey, and good luck!

Do you have a video that discuses this poly tunnel? Is it heated?
I say ask these 3 things to decide what to grow:
What do you like to eat?
What do you want to try?
What comes to mind when you think of a garden?
Those answers are better than anything I can tell someone to start out growing.
💚
Could you do a video on how to garden while having to work 9 to 5, please
Thanks
Thank you so very Much!!
I appreciate the time you're putting in to making these videos, and the fantastic tips for early in the season!!
Labels definitely….I made a special effort this year but a well known brand of permanent markers are letting me down!
good vid, the intro music is way too loud though
I’ve always had trouble labelling but this year it’s been my focus to make sure I label everything and so far I’m doing ok
Envious, my last frost date is summer solstice. Another great video!
I'd say Rule No1. for anyone starting is don't overcomplicate. You don't need fancy gear and thousands dollar set ups and machinery , just get seeds , throw them in the dirt and watch plants grow. Yes this is oversimplifying a bit but in it's core it comes to that, everything extra will just help you.
Labeling …I always get ahead of myself and starting sprinkling seed around my garden then forget what I planted …every.single.year. At this very moment my garden is full of seeds spouting and I have forgotten what they are 😆 Now its a waiting and guessing game…is it broccolli or cauliflower 🥴 lol . Thanks for another well made , informative video!
putting labels in to my raised beds and seed tray is my worse fail year on year!!!!
say no more
Another rule is redundancy: plant more than you think you need and succession sow
The most important rule:
1) START
Nice one how I make my own compost I currently have 3 bays and am planing to make more
We start each year labelling every single newly sown pot or cell and always end up with crops without labels.. especially tomatoes. Not sure what happens 😂
WOW! that BEAUTIFUL slab log fence at the end of the video should be a story in itself!
Last year was a devastating one. Our garden space was invaded by wild pigs (actually javelina)
We are trying again this year. Some new ideas – implementing some ideas we had, but just couldn’t afford to do… some stronger barriers, as well.
🤞🏼 Fingers crossed, this year will be better.
Thank you for your videos Huw. They are very uplifting. May your gardens be filled with Abundance and Peace
Great narrative and encouragement for new gardeners!
2021 not a single tomato seed germinated for me, 2022 100% germination on five varieties. Not a single label in sight 😂😂
I've already forgotten what I've sown. No idea yet if it's sweetcorn, peas or courgettes
😂 Rule #3. Busted.
Huw, are you aware some of your video clips are being used by somebody to tout for money & donations $200,000 USD to buy land in México for an ecovillage? 🤔

Your videos are always so beautiful. However, it usually doesn't apply to most of is because we don't have hoop houses or greenhouses to start our plants in. So I have to wait another five weeks to put out plants.😂
You’re a wonderful entertainer Huw!! The amount of info you give while visually throwing us into heaven is astounding and appreciated! I just ate my first garden salad of the year while watching this 🌸 Feels like a moment!!
My corn was devastated and completely eaten too😭 another awesome vid I’ve can’t wait to stay dirty
My mom loves your videos Can you put Hindi subtitles she tried to watch your videos with auto translate but they are not accurate lots of love from India 💞💞🇮🇳🇮🇳
Number 3 is my biggest problem. I start every season with everything all my seedlings labelled then it all gets out of control and I put things in the ground thinking I’ll remember what they are and the next day I’ve got no idea! 😆 I am determined this year to keep everything labelled.
For rule 6, I'd add further that it's important to fully and completely embrace your mistakes – it's a great opportunity to learn, to take a deep dive find out what went wrong and why, so that you're prepared for the future! (As well as learning other bits along the way)
I remember talking to a friend who grows cacti as a hobby, he was talking about this one guy who grows the most amazing array of plants – "He's the most experienced cactus grower I know, he's killed thousands of them!" 😂
