  1. Yes indeed! Let the pods dry and plant the seeds in well-drained soil in a pot. For other scapes, do remove them to keep the plant healthy.

  2. I shall try the dusting in sulfur idea of hers but I sharply disagree that she should waste the mother rhizomes.
    Maybe put them in the compost heap but check on them for new growth in the Spring. I have so often found new rigorous plants growing from such decrepit examples.

    Also I break away the segments rather than cutting them. I think that helps.
