Onions didn't work for me last year, but the voles enjoyed them. They ate the onions long before they could bulb up, so I only got bunching onions which I planted with my tomato plants. This year, the Red Bearded onions seeds I planted had poor germination I will be transplanting the few I have into my greenhouse raised beds with tomato plants this weekend. Also, I will be dropping seeds for more bunching onions and radishes in the open space.

One thing you didn't mention is that onions deter deer and other animals that like to munch on your garden
Tip for separating onion seedlings: put them in water and wash the dirt away and then the roots will easily separate. Just make sure they don't dry out and get them planted quickly
I love that color of purple you have for that bag in the background. I just found my box of potatoes I stored in my garage. They have roots – live 2 feet long! What do I do with them? I grown green onions. They spread all over the garden. I would love to grow big purple and white onions but I can never get bulbs to grow. None of my root vegetables grow. Not even radishes. I don't understand.
