LEGO recently revealed the Ideas 21338 A-Frame Cabin set, and here’s my detailed preview using the official high resolution photos and videos, but there’s more! We compare it to the original Ideas submission by the very talented Andrea Lattanzio aka Norton74, as there seems to be a fundamental change of concept between the two versions. There’s also a unique new presentation of the minifigures included, so there’s a lot to talk about!

It also comes down to cost… there are more parts in the original submission, therefore higher cost…. The designers have the tough job to take the idea and fit in with the customers budget..
It’s like the Ideas Football table. The original looks so much better. As paradoxically as it sounds, but non-Lego designers are much more creative as they are not bound by all the constraints that Lego designers are.
It’s okay but it’s too expensive. The original looks more rustic. The LEGO versión is more of a cabin air bnb, the story doesn’t work for me
I am so sick of Lego using mammoth tusks as tree branches. They need to develop more tree-branch piece types, and bring back the amazing palm tree segments & bases of yore. Make bigger and smaller sizes, even. They can represent ancient types of cypress and other trees besides palm trees. There are many good tree designs which aren't too parts intensive. Lego could have used any of them. The red tree on the far side of the cabin looks acceptable, because it has individual leaf elements, it's shorter, has a bend. You can do that build technique for 1 out of 10 trees maybe, certainly not 3 of 3!
I'd be interested in it, maybe If i could also find a parts list for the original trees, animals, and minifigures to change out some aspects
5:35 This piece looks like a car door of the Lego City cars from the 90's
As someone who isn’t going to play with it, but display it in my office.. I like the new one a bit more. It’s a little less messy, and despite the cut back trees I think it works well.
The original looks realistic.
They could at least have kept the color scheme of the original.
I dont have Space for it but im buying it 😅
I love this set, TIL about the original concept in which I love the hats and other details.
It is sad, that in the Ideas as a designer you give your best into the model, trying for years to succeed and then few guys from Lego says ok, we will do it but on our way, like it or not. And they change the whole idea into something different. As we can see it is 18+ set, so why they couldn´t keep the original story? (and the trees of course)) Btw looking forward to the new Bricklink designer program, where they do just minor changes to the original set designs 😊
Can't wait for your review and Andrea's say as well!…🙏🏼☺️
Perfect set for Mystery Shack moc!
Castrated!
the old set and backstory is better. This is …. too soft.
Ideas its much better
the original trees had to be nerfed😂😂
I don’t know how lego runs their math it but charging $199 and including at least 2 of the original trees is preferable to $179 and those diseased looking trees. The concept of presenting a weathered or run down structure is way more difficult to design and interesting to build. I am sure that the questionable techniques of the original design make it look more intriguing but it does not feel like lego wanted to produce a worn out structure.
ive always wanted a "Foraging" / forest hut from lego! but im always sad to see the price lmao
I personally liked the idea of the original submission that Andrea had done, it felt really earth and just had so much character, reminded me of the very much loved old fishing shack. 🎣
i think the lego version is a good ode to the original.
Вийшов чудовий огляд на один з найкрутіших наборів початку 2023 року😁😉 Ваш формат ознайомлення з наборами Лего мені імпонує ще з того часу, коли я переглянув ваше відео-порівняння двох Лего-замків👍 Хочу придбати собі цей набір, але сумніваюся між ним і новим поселенням вікінгів, що має вийти, бо не знаю з яким набором зможу створити цікавіший сюжет для мого каналу😏 Тож чекаємо…(It's a great review for one of the coolest sets of early 2023😁😉 I've been impressed with your format for introducing Lego sets ever since I watched your video comparing two Lego castles👍 I want to buy this set, but I'm torn between it and the new one settlement of Vikings, which should come out, because I don't know with which set I can create a more interesting story for my channel😏 So we're waiting…)
The final design looks pretty good, but I'd agree that I would have preferred the original trees and animals. I don't think the birds, squirrel, or otter are bad, but I would have loved a skunk and some chickens (and also a goat). Personally, I dig the men living away from modern society and think its a solid concept that should be encouraged.
I might get this because I really liked the lego lighthouse, but I would have been more likely to buy it if it had more elements from the original design like the trees (I really want those trees).
Imma be honest. Why even bother about contests like this, when Lego literally releases a completely different set? Like the only thing that realy is similar is the fact that its a trianlge woodhouse. Thats it!
Nah they completely ruined the vibe, I was very excited for this one but I won't be buying it, this was a swing and a whole ass miss.
I actually really like the simplified trees. Look less tree-y but they have a nice aesthetic
it's just not the same vibe imo. If I get it I'll use the tree pieces for bonsai or something
While I prefer the original concept, I'd say this is a good adaptation of that. The biggest change is the roof. Because it can't have the ramshackle design, it changes the whole vibe, so it makes sense that they'd lean into that, rather than just making a pale imitation of the original
Will I buy, of course. Do I appreciate some of the corner cuts, no. But as always, MOCs will be superior but would also be far more expensive to make. The man bun or lady with a mustache, idk about that one
Since it is Lego, you can always "trash" it yourself to give it the character of the original design.
Yeah those trees are just the worst, they look so meh and that's not even comparing them to the original ones. I guess we should be happy they didn't just put the lego "cone tree" in
They are both cool but Lego should have included the original trees but I feel like the green windows look better than white ones
ngl i like the official one better
The original design was very much a rustic wilderness cabin. The new design is very much a posh Air BNB rental. Different vibes. I liked the rustic wilderness cabin.
For the first time ever I have to say, the original is very cool, the lego set does not interest me in the slightest.
I actually prefer the new trees a lot more – I think the more stylized look is way better than just a cluster of leave-pieces.
the original is beautiful but the Lego design sucks
i'd buy the original but not the lego design
lego should really add a slanted flat piece. its flat on the bottom but one of the top edges is slightly raised. and maybe a flat peice but with a flanted single hole on the botom to legally make the broken stairs at the entrance.
The butterflies are so over the top. It’s like stamping on the grave of the original aesthetic. The only way it could have been worse is if they added a giant rainbow to the set.
I can understand why people would prefer the original, but personally I like the release version more. Rather than a hermit house, it makes me think of a vacation get away, and it just fills my head with thoughts of chilling out in the woods in fall with my friends. I've already built the set (and love the hidden details), and am planning on completely replacing the minifigs with ones that look like my friend group to better create that feel of stepping away from the stress of work life for a weekend forest retreat. Last year we rented a beach house together, maybe this year we can do a cabin in the woods.
So disappointing because I'm a big fan of the original designer. Lego is always saying "Hey these are for adults too" but then they dumb these down so much and make them so generic…
Well you're surely not on minority here… nobody (except maybe a few freaks) wants to build a women with mustache.
Ku suka versi originalnya, pintu versi original lebih menarik dibanding versi Lego. Dan pohonnya juga lebih hidup seperti di pegunungan.
The green looks like the Northern Lights
