Wind would blow those covers off in my garden, but it is a great idea! Thanks, Gary.
I'm in SC zone 8. It's 85 degrees here.

Was just wondering about this- kind of winter sowing in place with a little help. Last year, Georgia, Zone 7, I transplanted my cool weather crops in JANUARY after finding your videos. Unfortunately, last fall I wasn’t nearly as productive so I’m just now cleaning out my beds and adding compost and such. I haven’t even started my plants indoors this year, and there are no transplants available in the stores. I do have hoops and plastic, so that will be tomorrow’s chore.
Up here in NJ my beds are still frozen. Do I just add a top coat of compost and plant my lettuce?
Yay Gary I have been so looking forward to your videos and itching to plant some cool weather crops!!! This is my first year using the pvc pipes as a hoop house with frost cloth for my lettuce. Can’t wait to have a thriving cool crops garden this year ❤🎉
I'm in middle Tennessee and have all my cool crops in as of a week ago. Tons of greens and lettuce, beets, radishes, onions, etc. We had 2 really cool nights followed by some very heavy rain so I just covered the beds with cloth weighted with bricks as much for the heavy rain (didn't want my seed floating) as for the freezing temps. Worked well. We are back to very warm temps and I'm already seeing little leaves sprouting. This weekend I guess I'll get the summer stuff started so they will be ready by late April, early May. Thanks Gary… you sure have been a God send for me…I love your common sense way of gardening.
How do we get advanced notice when you’re going to do a members live?
We’re in the DC area and since it has been so mild I scattered some seeds on 02/09 and by 02/17 I already had some arugula, lettuce, mustard and spinach germinate! Didn’t cover them and expected them to sit for a few weeks, it was quite a surprise to see the little green sprouts last week. 🌱
So clever! I'll try this. Thank you.
Genius! Thank you for all of your videos. They’re very helpful. Happy growing, y’all!
My ground is completely frozen. Last frost around Mid May. Will these things warm up soil so I can plant?
Thanks for the great ideas!!
