  1. We haul our cars and tractors around on a 16-foot flatbed trailer all the time. Find you a friend in your neighborhood, who has a truck and trailer for "next time".

  2. So many lessons learned. It is scary to think of all the long distant trips we have taken with nothing in the car but some snacks but never again. As you have experienced, the police are not coming to the rescue anymore – we are on our own. You had me checking my go bag to make sure I had all the things you discussed. LOL

  3. Oh goodness! Thank you for sharing your ordeal and how we need to be prepared with the items you mention. I have non of those things in my car.

  4. I’m retired and drive part time for a dealership. Many new cars do not have spare anymore. Air pump only. I take a full size spare in my vehicles. It’s the world we live in.

  5. What an ordeal!!!! So glad you're safe and sound. Now you can implement these plans going forward. I am going to work on this as well. Thank goodness it wasn't snowing or pouring rain!!!!

  6. You got a lot of great tips that I'd never considered. After an unexpected snow several years ago, that left many stranded on the roads and highways here, I put a bag of emergency winter Items in the car. I hadn't considered what should be added for other situations. I'm just grateful you made it home safe.

  7. If you are intelligent enough to distinguish east from west, you will not be hired to be a police officer. You should have told them there was marijuana in the car – they would have had 20 cars and 3 helicopters searching for you.

  8. I always look forward to your videos Kaye, you are always relevant, helpful, inspiring and so full of light and we are so dadgum blessed to have you and your beautiful love little lady. I tell you what Miss Kaye, free labour for life no strings attached, just a small ball and chain.🤣☺️❤Love you forever kitty

  9. One of the most important things I learned when I started driving truck was a way to warm my truck if I couldn't start my truck. A large metal coffee can, a roll of toilet paper and a bottle of 70% rubbing alcohol. Pull the cardboard out of toilet paper, pull it up a bit and pour about half that small bottle onto the toilet paper and light it (ALWAYS carry a lighter) this will keep the entire cab warm in an extreme emergency!! Also go to NAPA and get some emergency "triangles" or flares to set behind your vehicle if you break down at night. For semi drivers it's a requirement to have triangles in our trucks. As for the tow drivers, it's basically the same requirements as for a semi truck driver, like the insurance etc. The exception is folks with records can still be hired, it's basically up to the company. Background checks ARE done, but it's their discretion who gets hired and trust me when I say, some companies don't CARE as long as there's a warm body in the seat!! Anyway, just a few things I learned as a trucker.

  10. fix a flat tire sealant = USE THE ENTIRE CAN, rotate the tire to spread the sealant to the hole $10
small air compressor(portable, with a jump-starter) this may take awhile $75
    can of bear spray $30
can of ant, roach, spider killer $5

  11. Ever since I was very young I've had an attitude that any time I was delayed there was a very good reason for it, even if that reason was not apparent, I don't know if that can be nurtured in people, but it has made me a very patient person.

  12. You can rehydrate baby wipes with a little water. The Police and Highway Patrol always have a non emergency numbers. Have you had a simple maintenance class? How to check your fluid levels (oil, transmission, radiator and brake), tire pressure, change the air filter and tire (if your able). Can you hook up charging cables? Don't completely rely on GPS (only as good as it's programer), take maps and plot your route on a legal pad that will show you the distance between rest stops, where to buy food and gas as well as exit numbers. Also add alterative routes just in case a road is closed. Go through your trunk periodically to make sure the spare is full of air, you have the proper tools, change out expired items like batteries, old water, food and medications and that everything is clean and dry. Keep a car diary for things like fluid changes, tire rotations (mark down the dates) it's also a safe place to keep all the important papers for the car. Trying to remember all that my Dad taught me. Let me know if this helps.

  13. Other than a snack and some water, what good did a bug-out bag do you? I hope the people who told you, didn’t say…”You “should” have had a bug-out bag!” Anyone who knows you would know you had one. Some people love to tell other people what they should have done. What good did a bug out bag do you? Other than, maybe, a list of phone numbers, you are very prepared. You stayed calm, alert and was prepared for almost anything. I didn’t see your other video, so maybe I’m wrong, but the only you needed and you had, was patience. Can I ask why you have 2 insurance companies? And you’re the 3rd person I know who wasn’t taken care of by triple A. Switch to State Farm. I have a list of phone numbers for tow trucks, in my phone and a paper copy in my glovebox. If Tennessee is a carry state, I’d get trained and carry.

  14. some cars dont have a spare. I assumed all did until after we bought it. Horrible. Now they have to remove the wheel/tire and find one or a repair shop if the tire is trashed. At night after closing time, well you imagine where ,when, conditions. It could easily be a disaster. Play out the disaster potential. Lets have another law made that the "seller must disclose" with signatures of seller and buyer verifying that the buyer was informed the car has no spare and accept that situation and what ever consequences result from accepting such a stupid weight /room savings.
Just another dangerous …way the manufacturers save money.
IHave a newer 12v tire pump , tire plugs, can of tire puncture sealer ,jacks, blocks stands..its a rediculous list/with backups to cover any circumstances Ive run into.

Get triple a for example and another backup service because sometimes you may not like the first choice you and your call is towed to. I had an RV trans go out and the first tow dumped me in podunk town ,but my other card got me to a better one to fix it,but the trans dumped 500 miles later as the bolts were loose so had to get another R&R.

  15. My husband passed away 2 years ago but would always tell me keep a jumper kit, 1st aid kit, roll of toilet paper and roll of paper towels and wipey's as well as a window breaking kit. I have all these in the back well as that window breaking thing in my glove Box. I remember him checking regarding having a spare tire when we bought my 2018 CRV. He has taught me well and always said you have to rotate your tires And make sure you get your oil changed and do maintenance slightly before
not after, Recommended. Every car we have had has hit close to 200000 miles with very little problems.

  16. Glad you were home safely. We carry a plastic canister of antibacterial wipes that fits into one of the cup holders in the back seat and don't dry out on you. Also check Walmart in the travel size section near shampoo etc and you can get toilet tissue roll that will actually easily fit into the glove compartment. I even carry one in my purse.

  17. My niece broke down a while back and she called tripple A and a wrecker hauled her car away while she was waiting on tripple A.She even had tp pay wrecker bill and impound fees ! THIS WAS WRONG.

  18. So sorry for your ordeal. That had to have been very scary. When I took driver's ed back in the day one of the first things we had to do was change a tire. It actually came in handy because I had to change a flat driving home from work one day. Back in those days we didn't have a cell phone, so I just changed it and went on my way. What's funny is just as I was finishing up these two good looking guys showed up and asked me if I needed any help. LOL! I just smiled and said, "No thanks! I got this!"

  19. I own my mother's 1998 Saturn (45K miles) and my 2002 Buick that I bought in 2008. I keep them in good running order. Car insurance is very low and the cars are so old (but sound mechanically), I don't pay personal property tax anymore. Decades ago I learned, after hitting a deep pothole in the road at night, to keep the donut tire pumped up. Such are the pitfalls, that we single older ladies run into, when sudden and unexpected situations happen. With age comes wisdom and I never stop learning. Thanks so much for sharing this experience, Kaye. 😇 God truly watches our for us.
