Dig it up, bag it in plastic and put in trash, never burn it or it’ll get in the lungs, very dangerous. The oil in the roots is very active too
Living on the edge of the woods, I wear disposable gloves when I work because poison ivy is a pernicious ground cover. Urushiol is the oil it produces on leaves, stems and roots. Being highly allergic, I've tried everything to treat exposure- but Zanfel is a scrub that I've found works best on any level of infection. It's expensive, but I keep tubes of it in the med cabinet year round.. it cures itching immediately and redness overnight every time. Paul Harvey used to recommend it! Hope you're feeling better soon.
I do use surgical gloves inside my garden gloves. I had gotten poison sumac and had to take steroids. After that I use the surgical gloves inside my garden gloves. Thanks be to God oh, I did not get it last year. I was even pulling it up not knowing it was poison sumac last year.
HAND SANITIZER WILL HELP KILL IT KAYE
Oh my! I never thought about cats getting into it. My cat is an indoor cat but we have several strays and some of them let me pet them!! Yikes!!
Saying a prayer for you. Thank you for all the tips.👩🏼🌾
I hope you feel better soon.
Oh no! That sounds awful. It looks painful ☹️
Ohhh HAPPY BIRTHDAY youngin!!! Hope it was wonderful!! Thank goodness I'm not allergic to poison ivy, oak or sumac. I had a friend that got it from her horse's hair years ago…so watch the kitties aren't getting it on their fur.
Washing with green soap will help.
Ugh!! Poison oak, ivy and sumac! I have lived in the forest for a few decades, and am very allergic to poison oak. I have friends who are wildland firefighters, and asked them years ago what they used. They recommended Oral Ivy. It is a game changer!! I have used it year round and have not had an outbreak in 15 years!! Poison oak that we have here can be transferred from the dormant stems, the roots, and the actively growing plants. Oral Ivy can be purchased at Vitacost for around $14.00. A one ounce bottle will last 1 year!! We will always have it in our house!!
My granny used bleach water after exposure. If they got poison ivy rash they used jewelweed. It fabulous for poison ivy.Hate it for you. Get healed up soon❤️
Good reminders. Happy Bday🎉💐
Hello smart and beautiful, when I lived in California one of my jobs was tree timing so I know what a hazard those 3 🏴☠things are even though I was never lucky enough to get it LOL, anyways be careful and stay safe and warm and above all keep smiling that beautiful smile for all to see, GOD BLESS you and yours and GOOD NIGHT MY DEAR 😇🌹🦋
Omg you poor girl! First your car gets a flat and now you have poison ivy again 🤦♀️ Please take some time to heal yourself body AND soul ❤
I use fels-naptha laundry bar soap, about a dollar at Walmart, yes it smells loud but it has never failed me at getting the tar like sap off.
Happy Birthday Kaye! Oh boy…I had that 5 years ago all over my hands and between my fingers that was just awful! It hurt like heck and I had to wear gloves when dealing with myself! It finally went away but what an ordeal….I feel for you
I've had some luck with charcoal soap. Prevention is always better than the cure. Long pants, thick socks, and a light use of Roundup only on the ivy can mitigate.
And Happy Birthday!! It's never too late or too early to express that.
Kaye, You need to just pack up, take a 3 weeks cruise. Oh my goodness, what a way to start the New Year. one thing after another since Teresa left. Geeze Louise…
Happy Birthday Kaye. Great video thank you. God Bless
Ive had it many times it's all over the woods around our place. Im sorry ur dealing with that!!!!
Oh dear! Sorry you got poison ivy. I get poison oak if I just SAY it! I make very sure I don't shower in hot or warm water to spread it. One time when it was very bad as a child after chasing geese in the woods. I got it very bad on the insides of both knees where your legs could rub together. Then we went to the beach. I went running into the ocean and ran out screaming. Salt in the open wounds! The next day it was healed! I believe the salt dried it up. Good luck! I hope it goes away soon!
Softscrub and dawn.I have also used alcohol.
I also put a cool poultice of water mixed with baking soda on it.
I got it bad like that back in the early 90's and tried top doctor it myself, I ended up I think in the emergency room and they gave me prednisone(steroid), and benadryl for the itching , I'll never try to doctor it myself again if I get it. I'm sorry you're so allergic to it, maybe it's you have a lot of and I don't have it here. You can get Benadryl spray at the store but it's like spraying shellac on your skin.I'll pray for you but you are probably just going to have to let it run it's course, maybe the prayer will keep you from getting in it again or God will make you immune to it, that's what I will pray so you don't have the problem again, God bless you.
The thumbnail made me think you had a hair on your chinney chin chin.
Happy Birthday….so sorry you got the poison rash….love ya
Happy Birthday 🎉
Happy Birthday! I've never had issues until 2006 when I was clearing our new property to create a shade garden. I got it all over my ankles. Drove me nuts! This may sound crazy, but I scratched open all the blisters and dumped alcohol over the entire area. It cleared right up.
Dust, baking soda, flower or anything dry like that, generally helps with cleaning oil. Or dry cloth, dry tissue etc. after that dry wipe off, you can clean with water and soap, so wet cleaning. It’s like trying to clean the oily stove top, if you use a tissue first, it takes away most of oil. Then you can clean with soapy water. Once I figured that, I was golden. The principle is the same. (I figured that out once that I got a very hot pepper oil in my hands. The itching want away with baking soda.
I discovered witch hazel is soothing on poison ivy blisters after getting it on the bottom of my foot. Of course, I'd rather not get a poison ivy rash at all so I really appreciate your tips to avoid it.
Bless YOUR HEART!!! Misery I know you are suffering. I have some horror stories as well. Thanks for the warning. Vigilance for sure. God heal you soon.
Oh, Sweetheart! I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I, too, am highly allergic to poison ivy and spent many, many weeks covered in calmine lotion. Virginia is covered with it. Fortunately,, there is precious little of hit here in Florida. The best thing I've found to combat poison ivy is jewel weed soap. It works really well to not only clean it off of you before a rash develops, and if you have the rash, it's an anti-inflammatory that will quell the itching. Supposedly, jewel weed grows here, and if I either find some, or figure out how to grow it, I'll definitely make a batch of soap. If you can strip down and put your clothes in the wash when you come in, that helps, too.
You have 2 hours or less to get cleaned up if you been contaminated. I use body soap that are not moisturizers. I use scrubbies in the shower. Keep your skin cool and dry. It's in my property and I always look where their at. I use to get it badly but hardly anymore just a few little bumps and I attack it with the blue dawn soap immediately. You can rent goats to rid the poison plants. When working outside I wear long light sleeves and pants. When I see a plant I get the vinegar and pour it straight into it. I have learn to avoid it getting it badly through the years. Nail scrubbers are a must. I use dial and Irish spring soaps that dry the skin. Avoid any wash clothes towels. Pat dry all your body.
Happy belated Birthday Kaye! Never thought about getting poisen ivy this time of year. Thanks for the heads up.
I am allergic big time! It’s pure misery.
I got some relief form the Zanfel, that and water as hot as I could stand it.
Tried everything else I could think of to help the itch. Those two things did help.
I kept getting it on my forearms where I would push up my sleeves.
I am very careful now.
Double glove and maybe use a clothespin to take the gloves off.I also wash my gloves now.Keep several pairs so I can have a clean pair ready.
The oil keeps going down into the dermis, that is why you have to make sure you get it off,by scrubbing.
God Bless
Donna
Worst case of poison ivy I ever got was from where my dogs rubbed against me.
I have gone through so many tubes of Tecnu Extreme!
Be proactive. Before you go in the garden/bushes/woods, before you get dressed to go out, take some liquid soap and mixed it 50/50 with water. Rub it all over you! Let it dry. Get dressed. Do whatever you were needing to do. Then have your scrubbing shower. Also, where ever poison ivy grows, it's natural antidote jewel weed should be close. If you do break out and itch, a strong alcohol tincture of jewel weed will help dry it up. And plantain weed tincture is good for any kind of itching. If you can't find these locally, you can order them on line.
Eewwwww. So sorry
You can get it from fire wood too. One year that's how I got it.
The oil can persist on gloves, sleeves, pantlegs etc for a long time. Harbor Freight sells jersey type gloves by the bag cheap. be careful handling firewood too. Laundering those gloves causes them to shrink a lot, but I can manage to use them a few times before they are too small to be comfortable. Common sense may be the best defense.
Well a very Happy Birthday! Sorry to hear about your exposure. I’m also very susceptible. Good old Calamine lotion works pretty good for me. But last year I was clearing brush and got a major exposure. I don’t do the steroids. May I suggest a lotion that my Dad used. Try to find some Voltaren lotion. It has a 5% lidocaine. My Dad’s Dr prescribes it mainly for his arthritis pain or a treatment for a Shingles rash. It’s available at Walmart. It helps a LOT for the itching! It also helps heal the rash. You have my sympathy! I can relate!
Wish you luck! God bless!
When washing your hands you can use dish soap but you must use cold water that's the old farmer trick keeps your pores closed
You can also get the pharmacy kit from the drugstore and it has steroid tablets and the itch will disappear in a couple hours
