1st time gardening as an adult this year. My mom and other family did growing up, but they bought starts. I'm going big and trying seeds. I have cheaper trays for space and plan to up pot in solo cups. I saw you can use reflection instead of grow lights so I got space blankets. This weekend I'll be covering some plastic storage shelves in clear plastic on the front and space blankets on the back, and starting seeds. No idea if it will work, but not ready for grow lights and heat mats yet 🤑🤑
Great tips and so many resources to do a garden cheaply along with YouTube videos. MI Gardener has great videos and sells his seeds at a reasonable price. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day!
Heat mats are worth seed starting!
Great tips and inspirational ideas
Thank – You ! I found your channel on the Canuary Collaboration, love your direct teachings, Thank – You from CT !
We had a new mattress and it came wrapped in a huge sheet of thick plastic. It's serving well as a Polly Tent. I created two A frames with canes with a ridge pole across the top. I fastened it with cable ties. I draped the polythene over and held it down with old bricks. It was wonderful for tomatoes at the beginning of the season when the weather was still too cold. Later the peppers loved it. I'm in the North of England so four seasons in one day all through summer.
I have seen so many creative ways to grow food and it always inspires me. You can grow food in so many different ways. We used storage bins that we already had around from a previous move. Drilled some holes in them and they worked great. I bought pots in bulk for super cheap, but literally, any container can start seeds! You can use those red party cups to start seeds. The composting, finding seeds, sharing, etc. So many great tips.
Wow this is so educative.
I got a few dozen mineral lick buckets from a local farmer that didn't want the empties rolling around his fields. 21"Wx17"H- raised bed. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.
Our city has community garden plots which can be rented for minimal costs. I have a small plot there but am going to have a container garden in my small back yard. You have given me so many tips for starting my own seeds. I am ready. Thanks Prepper Potpourri.
😁 I have a box full of CDs in Cases!!! Thank you for sharing this idea!
Excellent informative video. I use pantyhose to tie up all of my plants. They last a long long time. If you are growing melons you can use the pantyhose to put around the melons and tie them up. Thank you for all of your valuable information.
Love this. Started mine in egg cartons n Saran wrap n LED light to start my beans.
Thank you for the idea on reusing my used canning lids to mark my vegetable garden .
I rescued pots that were abandoned on my apartment property, plus 2 that were on my little apartment deck when I moved in. I also found 2 shelves that were left by previous tenants and brought the up on my deck. I used bungees to secure these shelves to my deck rail. I bought some popcorn buckets from a local thrift store and popped holes in them for additional pots on the cheap. I have done seed exchanges with other YouTubers and I won some seeds from giveaways.. one of th4e two garden tools I own is afork with curved tines like a rake that was found in a huge lot of kitchen items I picked up on the side of the road. my compost buckdt on my deck is a rescued "tree bucket" that lots its handle. I dump my little compst bucket I keep under my kitchen sink into that bucket when it gets full.
when Iempty a bag of coffee I take the wire closure off of that, that is basically an oversize twist tie. I have used those for plant supporting
Wonderful suggestions!
I have net cups I have never used, I have a bunch of stuff put away for that magic moment I start my veggie garden, this week the last goat goes with it's new owner, goats and veggie gardens don't mix, I will be using your net cups seed starting when I'm ready.
We use concrete blocks for our raised beds.
Great suggestions
I saved my old garage door panels for a raised bed.
You can also blend your kitchen scraps and compost them it speeds it up a bit
We have a "Victory Garden". We started it from grass so it needs a lot of help. Each year it seems to get better. I have an indoor grow house with a light. My seeds never seem to do well. I am going to try to plant in bigger containers (milk jugs for example) instead of little pots. Then I will transplant only once. I will start saving milk jugs and other big containers in March or April and use them to cover my plants when the threat of frost or just really cold nights may freeze the little plants that are already planted outside. I love watching MI Gardener and CalKim. MI is in my grow area as well. We're in Central IL. Thank you!
