  1. Do you do the fuel saver at HyVee??? I shop HyVee here in Mankato. It is more expensive on groceries but the fuel saver usually saves us a good amount on gas. We have paid less than $10 to fill my husband’s suv. They will send you the flyer books with deals by week for the month. I am so sorry to hear about Hooper. My thoughts are with you and your family.😢

  2. I have found if I bring my strawberries home and soak in a bowl with a tablespoon of vinegar they last longer. I rinse and slice and put in a glass jar to store in the fridge. We were wasting strawberries too with just me and my husband. We eat them this way in salads, on waffles, cereal etc.

  3. So sorry about Hooper. Once quality of life becomes an issue it’s time for Hooper to go to the Rainbow Bridge.

  4. Rest in peace Hooper love the video. Hope Molly got home in time. Love your channel and many blessings to you and all your family and Penny 💓😊💓😊

  5. Here in the Denver area, a sale at Safeway or Kroger is a way better deal than Walmart prices. I almost never buy anything that’s not on sale or that I don’t have a coupon for. (That’s how I was able to feed three kids and a husband!)
Do you have an Instant pot? It’s great for making your own beans from scratch, and also cooks huge amounts of rice really quickly.

  6. Australian viewer here. Grocery prices are crazy here too. Not going up a few cents but like 60c in one week. You need to find a suburb that has all the different shops all close by each other. To save on fuel and your time. Always factor the time spent driving to and gathering the groceries.

  7. In Southern California, our Safeway stores became more expensive than Gelsons, our local “gourmet” grocery, so I switched to the better local store. It turns out the produce and meat are outstanding, no tasteless bad fruit, no waste, everything is eaten! Eggs are cheaper at Gelsons; $4.49 for cage-free, versus 6.99 at Safeway. The store is half-mile further, but gas is way down to $5.10 so I’m willing to go the extra mile. Best part: the cashier unloads my groceries from the cart, so I don’t have to bend down and lift each item from the cart onto a stupid conveyor belt, so no back pain. I’m saving a ton on Advil! Also, she opens the egg cartons, checks that they’re not broken, and wraps a rubber band around the carton so it won’t open on the way home. The bagger puts meat in separate paper sacks, and ice cream goes into a special heavy paper wrapping before he puts those in my shopping bags with the rest of the items. Grocery shopping is no longer a dreaded nightmare for me.

  8. So sad about Cooper. It’s hard to let him go, but I believe it’s harder to see him suffer. Prayers for you and your family.

  9. So very sorry about Hooper. My late mom's dog, a little boy, went over the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago. They are such a part of the family.
I have to budget food myself for financial reasons and get creative too. I buy frozen fruit now. Going to make us smoothies for snacks. We have a place that sells produce super cheap and our son will take us once a month when he comes home to visit.
I always do a big breakfast like 4 days a week. Keep going, you're doing well!

  10. Hi, So sorry about Hooper RIP with sweet Daisy. Your grocery haul was 👍. TFS Hugs & 🙏 for your family. 💜✌

  11. Daddy would shop different stores like you did. He would clip coupons back when they were in newspaper.

  12. I'm so sorry to hear about Hooper. He was a lucky pup to have been in your family. I'm glad you have Penny to help you through this time. There's nothing as lonely as coming home to an empty house. Rest in peace sweet Hooper.

  13. So sorry your family is going through the loss of your fur baby Hooper. 😔🐶 🌈 It’s such a difficult thing to do but how lucky we are to have had them! Good haul to start off your new budget. Tfs! 😊

  14. Nicole, a little prep you might consider when buying fruit is to prep/wash( somewhat dry as well) and divide it into GLASS JARS to store in the refrigerator for the week. Many people say the fruit lasts much longer and tastes fresher this way, without becoming moldy or mushy. I have found that it lasts longer for me as well!! I just use my quart or pint mason jars and they work perfectly!! Hopefully, this will help with the Aldi fruit. Here in my area, Aldi has the freshest fruit! 🤷🏼‍♀️🥰
Ps..Keeping all of you close to my heart as you go through this time of loss. I very much understand and my heart breaks for you. I’m so thankful you have sweet Penny to love on and brighten your days. ❤️‍🩹💔

  15. Yes it was interesting. Grocery prices are crazy you have to shop around. I saw a video on how to get like 30.00 worth of stuff at the dollar store for like 6.00. But I don't need the stuff you had to buy lol. So sorry about fur baby yall are in my prayers. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  16. So so sorry hugs and prayers…I lost my fur baby 3 days before Christmas he was all I had….lost my mom to cancer a few years back …lost my dad a year ago and my step dad 4 days later….my GOD bless your family
Just wanted you to know I'm so happy I ran across your videos you and your family bring smiles and joy to me thank you for all your hard work I love your videos

  17. Aldi fruit quality has improved here a lot. I haven’t done it yet, but I’ve read if you put berries in fruit jars they last way longer.

  18. Every once in a while I take the time to price compare at different stores as prices are always changing. I’m thankful that we have several options on the same road so I can go to multiple stores to do my shopping without having to drive all over. We’ve been thinking about getting a Sam’s or Costco membership too and seeing if we can save money that way too. Sorry about Hooper my friend. ❤

  19. I actually liked this video and didn’t find it boring at all. Thinking of the Northgarden family with the loss of Hooper❤. It’s always so hard when you have to say now is the time to say goodbye.

  20. Thinking of your family as you adjust to the loss of Cooper. 💔💔💕 Just curious, with your food shopping. Do you like different brands of cheese and cottage cheese? I tend to stick to certain brands once I find ones I prefer. 😊

  21. I like this kind of video. 👍 I tried to do low spend January, also. With mixed levels of success and a little out-right failure 😂 Going to try February & March. So very sorry about Hooper 💔 Even "prepared" for it, it is so hard.

  22. Sorry about your fur baby.Like a family member. I hate budgeting, but since I quit working 3 yrs ago I don't have a choice. Food prices are just nuts& gas in Florida it goes up every week. Florida used to be cheap compared to Connecticut. Now it's terrible because everyone wants a piece of it.I miss New England so much, but not the snow, gray skys.Cant win. Take care sweet lady.😥❣❄🌴🌞☮

  23. Sorry to hear about Hooper I hope Mollie got back in time and had a good trip. I watched the clip of Penny and him snoring away. It's interesting seeing what you get over there our butter isn't sliced in England. I now know what youtuber mean when they talk about a stick of butter! Eggs are crazy prices over there is it because of the bird flu. I'll have to check the exchange rate for the dollar.

  24. RIP Cooper, prayers sent your way. I enjoyed the video and it was helpful. We are empty nesters and we are very frugal, due to the inflation on food we spent $300 more than we normally do. Gas is supper expensive here in Canada 🇨🇦 as well. We do all our errands in one day. I have a list of things we need and shop around if the items are absolutely not necessary we wait till they go on sale. My husband doesn't like plant based food. I buy it when on sale cook it and he doesn't know the difference. I love it 😀

  25. Sorry to hear about your dog. Always hard to lose a loved one.
Building a Hy-Vee near me. I'll have to remember the weekend specials. I like Aldi but it's not close to me so I don't go there often.

  26. Thoughts and prayers for your family on the loss of Hooper. Cherish all the loving memories and know he’s pain free, running and playing with Daisy! Sending love from Iowa ❤

  27. We ate thru the freezer and now ready to refill…but yikes the prices now…

  28. Nicole, my town is called " the gateway to the north" , we call it " the gateway to your wallet!"😜 We must shop 7 stores to get the deals, the brands & sizes, not to mention the price you want to pay. Luckily, the stores are in a 3 mile or less. Distance from each other, just circling around in a small town.
But you have to stay diligent and try to only buy on sale items and stock up on them. Good luck!

  29. The items you went over on are totally understandable. My husband worked in a bank for years. He would like what you are doing. He’d make it into a game.

  30. I really appreciate your insight and ideas for saving money. All of us need to be doing the same to survive on our income and not touch savings. Do you want large family love? She does eat at home challenges for a month and she saves a lot from not eating out.

  31. Good for you! EVERYTHING is so expensive that it's become essential to budget. I need to pull in our belts more than I am now.

  32. Im so sorry about hooper it is so hard to loose a part of the family. We have 2 very old dogs so i am thankful they are still doing ok

  33. I love budgeting!! I watch a lot of budgeting/cash stuffing you tubers. Showing people another way of doing things is good. Thanks for the video.

  34. I realize food prices are based on the area you live and your selection of the local chain grocery stores. I live in South Jersey, so the Acme prices are the highest, then comes the chain, Shop Rite. Both of these chains have great weekly specials, but the only hang up is you have to hit whatever day their special prices start, going at the end of the week, all the specially prices items are gone from the shelves and well “Rain Checks” have disappeared from our vocabulary. My primary shopping is done at Sam’s Club, I only buy what I need and often I think if it is smart to buy in bulk to save more money, if I have the space to store the larger size, then it is a good deal for me. My Sam’s Club has great low gas prices, now you need to show your membership card. Walmart does stock items that the other chains don’t carry, but Walmart prices are not the least expensive, often they are much higher than Sam’s! There produce is of poor quality and the prices are higher than other chains. Target prices are no longer low and I have none near me, so that eliminates them. Learning the secret of being a smart shopper takes time and energy.

Sending virtual hugs to your Family for the loss of your fur baby. I have had to put down numerous of my animals, and it just hurts your heart. Letting an animal suffer in my book, is unethical behavior, people let their ego get in the way.

  35. So sorry about sweet Hooper. Prayers for Northgarden family!!! Groceries… so much stress. Here is North Carolina, I shop at Lidl, similar to Aldi… also a German based grocery store. The price of eggs boggles me these days…what the heck?!?!
