Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Love all the cows and sheep but I will say I do miss the kidding videos!
I have 11 cats, all fixed. Some cats will chunk up, some won't.
I’m sorry if you’ve answered this question elsewhere, Jess, but do you grow the feed for your own animals?
The sheep are so pretty and sweet!
female cats – definitely get looser skin on their bellies and fuller builds after they are spayed…the change in their hormones is a thing, for sure!
Yay! I absolutely love the updates that include the cows!! 🐄 Delmer is so darn CUTE!!! Omg’sh, I’d be a terrible farmer, because I’d be out there loving on him no matter what, and I’d never get rid of any..haha But he reminded me of Hallelujah when she was little! She was just the most beautiful calf I’ve ever seen, like out of a storybook perfect. I’m sure she still is. All of your heifers are really pretty, and I love how sweet they are too.:) That’s so cute about Miah and his favorite cows!! ❤God Bless!! 🙏🏼👍🐮
Cats get something called a primordial pouch on their bellies
I wondered what would happen with your dairy cows now that you can't drink cow milk anymore. Even though you like to give a lot of the milk away, it wouldn't make much sense to keep them (I would think) if no one else in your family could drink cow milk or its byproducts. Looks like that's not the case, so it's wonderful to see you'll be able to keep the girls! (I also wonder if you're off of all milk, or just cow milk? Have you tried sheep or goat milk since you realized cow milk is a no-go for you?)
Fat or tummy pooch? They get that hanging pooch going after being fixed.
Yes, I’ve found female cats to plump up when spayed
❤ I Absolutely Love the Video! I watched it twice. May God Bless You and your family.
Will you be able to keep track of Delmer? I'd love to know what kind of bull he turns out to be. He looks spectacular but I have no experience at all so take it with a grain of salt but he is an absolute cutie for sure!
Fern and I are due at the same time. 🙂
I really enjoyed the video today. I love all of your animals and look forward to updates about them.
Why do the male sheep need a fixed friend? Everyone with a Ram keeps it with a wether, assume it is fixed male. Just wondered.
Awww Delmer is so 😍
Delmer will have the best life EVER!! Real ladies man😜
What do u feed ur chickens
The Fern clip made me wonder if the cows still gravitate to Miah..? 😊
Looking at Delmar, you can see how the legend of the Jersey being an ancient mix of deer & bovine could be true….. he is beautiful…. Do you like Jersey meat… how does it compare to a beef cow?
Delmar is a doll has the prettiest face on him.
Lots of good ideas 💗.
JO JO IN VT 💞💨❄️☃️
Our orange female cat got huge after she got fixed. She looks like Garfield now
I like how you greeted Helen. I’m my head I heard, “HAY girl.”
Hi Jess! Chip and Cherry are a calico cats and calicos are very often less social creatures than many other cats. They are beautiful though ❤️.
🌸🐮🐄
Thanks for the cow update! The cows also remind me of growing up. We had both dairy and beef cows. I spent a lot time playing in the pasture with the milk cows. The paddock had a lot of very large rocks in it and those were fabulous for imaginary play. I would often lay on this one particular large rock and watch the clouds. We had a Jersey named "Pet" and she would always come over to check on me if she saw me laying down. Once a mom, always a mom! She would nudge me and "huff" a little. As if to say "Are you alright?" If I sat upright on the rock she never came round, only when I was laying down. Looking back, those were definitely some of the best times in my life.
There’s no reason to not handle that bull calf. If you don’t have the time the desire or the experience that’s fine too. But there’s no reason not too. Fun stuff ❤
I just realized something Jess, I have a dog named Fern and someone gave me a beautiful German Shepard name Freya. So now I have a Fern and Freya on my "yard" homestead.
Hi Jess, thanks for sharing the animals with us. Love how you love your animals and your life.
