In this video, it’s time for me to tackle the cottage garden that had a few design issues this year. I had plants that didn’t transition well together due to height or color… the shrubs had gotten so large and mature, the perennials were getting hidden and it lacked bloom and a cohesive look. Ill show you the process and goals to redesign this garden (and honestly its all a spontaneous event!). I’ll talk through some of the issues and how I will address them from start to finish. Take the garden expansion and design journey with me!

  1. 👍🏻 Agreed., always start with expansion.. there is never enough room and divide to conquer. 😛 always multiplying the hoard.
I’m digging through the biannuals and seeds to plant for fall..
love your smoke bush.. I will take any of the extras or clippings!😍 I love those pinks too.
I just planted a small first year growth hedge of vanilla strawberry hydrangeas., then did two rows of autumn joy sedums and then did two rows of hostas. I still have more of those to dig up and relocate. Then I have the large guys to divide.
I divided and moved a couple huge peonies., and I have a crap ton of lilies to dig up, divide and relocate. That’s going to be a job..
ok I love coneflowers. I spread some seeds, I am going to spread more. Hope they will come up for me next spring. 🤞🏻

  2. Husband ask “Where did you get all that beautiful grass?” 🤣 another great video.😍🥰

  4. I like your bench idea! Artist at work. Your garden looks beautiful. Your dogs are so cute.

  5. Don’t worry about bending over ,no problem ,nothing to see ,we’re used to builders bum over here in England .garden looks great ,you work so hard 👍

  6. This was an interesting video! I think it’s always helpful to hear someone else’s train of thought as they’re planting, especially that of a gardener as talented as you. Your cottage garden looks fabulous, and I can’t wait to see it next year with everything blooming. Thanks for letting us watch a master at work!

  7. I love how it turned out. Great job! I can't wait to see it next year. Do you mulch after redoing a bed or will you just let it overwinter as is?

  8. Wow, you did a lot of work! Thanks for sharing! Can’t wait to see how it fills in next spring!

  9. Your videos are so interesting and fun. Thanks for sharing and thank your husband for his humor! So refreshing in our times to watch a great gardening channel and get laughs at the same time.

  10. Hahahahaha….I actually enjoyed your husband today…"encouraging and supportive"😜 . The changes look great, there's a lot more open space and breathing room, and I love the addition of the bench. Great work today!

  11. You did a great job! I don't garden on paper, I love to imagine how the garden will look and go out and start digging up and moving plants, Its very gratifying! I wish I had your soil, so fluffy!

  12. I think men are more of the big picture, have to have it all planned out before they begin, where women (creative types), we know our plants and have a loose idea of how things are fluid and evolving from season to season. I do enjoy the solitude when creating and if I change my mind mid-stream, I know it's for the best!
    New follower here, BTW!
Maybe some pea gravel, mulch or a low growing ground cover under the bench would be lovely!

  13. Love your garden and how you take your time an explain everything (like to see you work solo more often)

  14. Love you’re videos minus……….! A little frustrating to listen to! Great ideas and it makes a lot of sense how you’re going about it! Beautiful monarch! I love working in my garden the same way! Just wish I could purchase what I want when I want! I really have to constantly work on my soil. I’m in zone 8 in Texas! Black muck! It’s coming around finally! I’m looking forward to Spring!

  15. new viewer here and I was really enjoying what you were doing until husband showed up and then after fifteen minutes I couldn't deal with his negativity any more… good luck with your garden…

  16. Love this video! I love how long it is and all the info packed in to it. Thanks a ton! Happy fall! I have to get busy planting bulbs. This helps get me motivated.

  17. Fascinating to hear you process this, your artistry in real time. So much more helpful than just an aftershot.

  18. Your husband comments make him sound like he is a condescending jerk. Shut up guy and just shoot! To listen to ONLY her talk is better without your criticism and patronizing attitude. Otherwise, thank you for such a beautifully well done gorgeous garden viewing experience and learning opportunity from a GREEN THUMB GODDESS!

  19. Really appreciate watching how you work and create as you go. You are a hard worker! I have several border and smaller island garden areas and also like to cram plants in just as you do. Just expanded and moved everything in my island garden, similarly to how you do it so it's helpful to watch you as you go through the process. I always enjoy your videos! Looking forward to see how it all turns out in the spring, yours and mine! 🥀🌻🐛🦋

  20. I loved watching your process – it makes me feel better about about moving everything around in my garden each year!

  21. Ahhh, can't wait to see how it will look next year. Love what you had done to this garden. Great job ! I have an area of garden that I have never liked. Maybe I need to do what you have done. Leave the "bones" of the garden and move, add and subtract perennials.

  22. I was going to comment about your producer's commentary, and he refers to himself as “your producer”😂😂😂😂. Thank you for sharing all of this information and inspiration!

  23. New subscriber here.. love your vids, love your enthusiasm and gardening . I’m like you 😃, but listening to your husband can be tiring sometimes. I’m sure he is lovely guy, maybe showing support or staying quiet would be better 🙂 .. just saying 🌺🌺🌹🌷💐🌻🌼❤️❤️keep doing what you doing!

  24. Thank you for another great video. You give me great ideas for my gardens future. Next month I will be redoing mine. It's still so hot here in Florida. You give me inspiration. I'm ordering day lillies. They grow good here. Not even 1 of my dahlias have grown. I'm going to call the company where they came from to see if I should dig them up or leave them be. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  25. love the royal purple smoke tree. Does it grow fast? how old is it? love your videos

  26. You need to find someone else to help you with the video. You’re doing a good job. Send your husband back into the house! He’s rude to you.

  27. Your energy is amazing! I can wait to see the result. THANK you for showing this process. I desperately need to redo my front garden but haven’t been brave enough to tackle it yet.

  28. Such a talented lady and so beautiful garden! But I feel so sad to see such a controlling freak as her husband. She has to explain every little step she does. So sorry. I hope one day this garden fairy will be in a better situation.

  29. Your videos are very informative and helpful. My husband said that he wanted to revamp our front garden to add more vibrant colors and I immediately thought of your beautiful coneflower collection. Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden.
