Behind a regular home in Oxforshire, England, is a very surprising garden. Karens ‘patch of paradise’ is a stylish jungle garden that features a jungle hut, pond and even a hot tub! Karen has been growing this tropical garden for many years, with the Palm trees as Bananas being some of the oldest exotic plants. Over the years the garden has evolved and developed and we out more while get some ideas and inspiration in this video.

🪴 From Karen:
“We live in West Oxfordshire in a very normal house, people are very surprised when they see what lays behind it!
We brought our first Musa Basjoo 19 years ago and the Trachycarpus 25 years ago. We redesigned the garden 6 years ago to incorporate the hot tub.
I think the coldest temp was about -8.
My favourite plants are the musa’s, T Rex and the Butia.
Most of the difficult plants that I find hard to keep in the ground like the Tea cup Colocasia, Burgundy Stem Colocasia, some cannas, bird of paradise I keep in pots and bring into the greenhouse for overwintering.
My dream plant is a traveller palm, we saw them growing huge in Florida.
My advice to new gardeners would be to plan where your plants go relating to sun and shade and look at how they naturally grow in the native environment. Also improve the soil for the greedy plants. We enrich with well rotted manure at least once a year.
Next year we are looking at moving some plants that are outgrowing their space and replant one of the sides of the walkway.”

Appreciated seeing this thank you so much xxx
To be honest gardens in tropical countries never look like this, very organized. Most people in tropics grow fruit trees, plants and root veggies along with herb plants and flowering plants, they prefer to get as much fresh supplies as they could get. Given their climate it is the nest choice as well rather than having a manicured garden with a lawn 😂. Banana, jack fruit, citrus trees, chilli plants and hibiscus are super common.
Love love love it
What a garden! Well dome!!
