We are starting to thaw out here in south Denton county. We never lost power and because it didn’t get terribly cold our plumbing was okay. We did have about 1/2 inch of solid ice on everything yesterday, but it’s melting.
Excellent video Jill. Yesterday here in central jersey we had our first trace of snow this winter, more like a light dusting not much to talk about… Thank you for always taking the time to makes these videos, I appreciate everyone believe me… 5:53 camera shot is just awesome, it's like I'm right there.
Yes yesterday was bad enough for us but as of today February 2nd it got much worse. On our 5 acres we have beautiful Oak and Elm trees. We lost about 4 of our Oak trees and several branches off others. We have maintained power but have a big clean up job to do. Bring back our warm weather so we can clean this mess all up! We are now just up to 33 degrees and ice is melting off power lines with big booms. Branches are still falling at 11 a.m. Clouds are thinning bring on the sunshine! But we are still having rain showers come through north of G'town.
In our area during ice storms, I've found it helpful to carry a thick round dowel (about 2" dia.) with a long nail embedded in the flat part, like a spike. Jab that down into the ice, take a few steps, pull out and jab again. (Alternatively, you could scoot on your sitter-downer, but wear waterproof britches!) Stay safe.
Looks like it was mainly on the ground. Hope it stayed that way. We had one like that back in the early 2000's up here in NW Arkansas that dropped about 1-1/4" of freezing rain that thankfully stayed off the trees due to the warm air temps. My Dad fell and broke his wrist on our sidewalk and we had to put chains on all 4 tires of the 4 wheel drive truck to get him to the hospital. I watched my cousin almost flip his tractor off of a 15' bank because he lost traction and slip off the hill. The tractor hit a tree or I figure we'd have had another emergency, or worse, to deal with. Then in 2009 we had one that got on the trees but not the ground. That one destroyed the timber and I'll never forget standing by the wood line listening to full grown trees snapping off. It sounded like explosions going off all night. Our power was out for 6 days but some of our neighbors were out for over 3 weeks.
I know this may be late in the game. I worked up AK for a good 5 yrs & I spent some time in Salt Lake City in January thru March last year for all for work.
Walking all the way over to Pops house shake kitty litter all the way over & back.
I know it won't melt it but it will give U some form of traction as U take your time walking when U walk over there. I mentioned AK because I "well" familour with the cold weather & the Results.
I wish I could send U my Boor Cleats I wore in Prudhoe Bay or Anchorage when in town there. Their in a plastic toat 'clean' in PHX. Lol.
Lord Jesus keep this sweet lady and her family and critters safe and all the people affected in these storms. Send help to the ones that are cold and hungry.Amen
Wow. I'm a Canadian from the Ottawa area and we had a severe ice storm in 1998 that halted "everything" for a week or two. But to see the same thing happen waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down south is simply bizarre. But now you have something to tell your grandchildren about. 😉 I wish you all the best. Just hunker down and call around and make sure your family, friends and neighbours are OK and wait it out.
You can get Ice Cleats that strap on your shoes or boots. They have some cheap ones online since you guys probably only need them a few days a year…but they work really well. Hopefully it will be warm again soon!
Stay safe… The icecicles are beautiful but I have stayed put because I am too afraid of hurting myself from falling .. Is this common in dfw? We seem to get snow every winter but this ice is something else

Prayers. Been raining here in North Carolina
Yikes 🥶take care in that nasty weather.💗
The Lord be with you and your family,
It’s been miserable here in North Texas for sure. I’ve got cabin fever! Headed to the ranch tomorrow. Be safe my fellow Texans!
Popcorn 🍿 and a movie time. Stay safe!
You can put plax glass around the chicken coop and then take it out in the spring. That way they can run around.
Prayers for y’all. Ice storms are serious business.
Please don't send it my way be careful
