  2. For large raised garden beds do you still turn the compost into the soil? Thinking that would disturb the soil ecosystem right? and bags are separated from the ground as you said

  3. I'm going to try dwarf tomatoes in grow bags for the first time this year. So thanks for the info on what to do w/ grow bag soil after that. I LOVE YOUR ADVENTURES W/ DALE!!

  4. For mixing your soil, instead of hand mixing (Dirty Job!), have you ever considered a portable concrete/cement mixer? $200 to $270 from HF, 1.25 cu.ft or 3.5 cu.ft. 120 volts electric.
Makes fast work of mixing potting soil and compost and whatever else you want to add, like Perlite or Peat Moss.

  5. Oh nice!!!! I am sO READY for spring and cant wait to start getting dirty again! I cant wait to try dwarf tomatoes this year… will be my first time. And tes potting soul is sO EXPENSIVE I stopped by it I compost now. Great video!!! 🧡❤️💜💙💚 -Liz from California

  6. Let's be honest, we're all just here for Dale!

No truly, as someone who's just an hour and a half west of you, I'm so thankful for all of your videos and tips. Just a second year gardener and so much to learn, but I feel like I'm years ahead thanks to your channel! God Bless!

  7. Learned something new today!!! Thanks for the info!!! Take care, be safe, best wishes and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 👨‍🌾✝️🙏🖖

  8. I like this video A LOT> Urban gardeners LOVE our growbags! I my used soil compost bin, turn and let it sit until the compost is ready. I like this idea better

  9. Great informative video. I do not have grow bags but very large containers. To refresh my soil, I will dump the whole thing out into my garden wagon or very large tote. I like to inspect my container soil to make sure no bad bugs are hiding – Grubs and mole crickets specifically. Then I amend as you do and put back in containers. All with my bare hands. I do have a sister who uses a dirt auger bit for her drill to mix soils. 🤔 not expensive, I'm considering

  10. I find my most successful gardening in grow bags. I’ve always worried about the soil nutrients getting lost or wash out from rain and general watering. This video was what I needed. Very helpful. Thank you! 💯

  11. I don't have grow bags but large black nursery pots, over 100. What I do at the end of the season is remove the old plants then cover the pots with newspaper. The pots get stacked and this helps keep the weed seeds out. Next end of season I'll use paper plates instead for better coverage. At the start of the season everything gets turn and amended before use.

  12. Finally.. I've done something almost the same way.
I dumped, a few at a time bags/pots/bins in a plastic kiddie pool.. added my compost and mixed a bunch of containers worth all together. I used a pitch fork.. bending isn't my best event.
I had a lot of roots going through bags that had to be plucked out… a couple I took the torch to.. they were hanging on tight.
    Then I refilled everything.
That nitrogen fertilizer I mentioned last time.. nope.. doesn't dissolve so it will go in deep a couple weeks before plants.

  13. i usually dump all of the potting soil on a big tarp and add my amendments in and mix thoroughly…i get alot of bugs in my bags so this is the way i have to do it to remove most of them..😊

  14. Sitting in my house, snow outside, freezing temps. Its so hard to have your excitement ehile I see your weather isnt looking like mine.

  15. Great teaching videos. Thanks. Will be second growing season at this house in S.W. missouri. Neighbor blessed us
with 26 protein buckets last year to grow in. Was rough with 7 days in a row over 100. ground is clay and alot of
rock. Have been working on that during the winter. Using alot of horse poo, leaves, straw and mulch. A work
in progress. Thanks again. All the best

  16. What affect does cedar have on pollinators and earth worms? I don't think they would like that smell and might avoid it.

  17. I just love your videos I am a senior citizen and all my growing is container growing how long would you say a bag of cow manure stays good if it's just stacked in your backyard? I have some that I got at Home Depot and I'm not sure if they are still good to use or not

  18. I wonder if mulching with coffee grounds for that same purpose would work since the grounds can make a nice barrier for water. Then you can remove what you can, scratch in what you cant.

  19. As always, great video Anthony!
You have the cutest moose in the land😉👍💜🦋🌻

  20. I really appreciate that you get to the point, give useful info, in a reasonable time. I have learned much from you. Thank you!

  21. Another great video. Was hoping you'd also show how to renew pots that already have plants in them that stay for several years. I have rose bushes and young citrus trees in pots that need some sort of renewing. Maybe an idea for another video? Thanks for helping us all.

  22. Thank you for sharing this! I definitely will use these tips for all my bags, pots, and greenstalks. It's definitely space neglected as soon weather permits I will be utilizing your tips.

  23. Just did 4 of my 20 gallon pots and used leaves and mulch in the bottom. It’d cost way to much to use all expensive potting mix to fill them.

  24. I like dumping mine out to mix because then I can see any grubs or rocks or anything else I don’t want to put back in it.

  25. I really needed this video! Thank you so much. I’m second year gardener in SC from W Va and Washington State different climates so your videos are a great help.

  26. Is there a problem with just dumping out the soil in the bag and mix it this way?

  27. I so enjoy your posts with a “real world” classroom feel. It’s good to see you address and attack temporarily neglected grow bags like many of us have. The rejuvenating techniques presented and reasoning is super helpful! Thank you for these videos! The professionalism and attention to detail shows! Again, Dale stole the show! Such a sweetie! ❤🐾

  28. Great video as always and thanks for this fantastic channel.

Could you list any cons to Mushroom compost. I think I'm going to pick up a few bags at Lowes shortly….thanks.

  29. Interesting how your use of mulch in the grow bags in the winter is sort of like a cover crop to hold in nutrients.
