Today I’m joined by soil consultant Brian Maisenbacer (@earthgrower7741) to go over my field soil test. We’ll explain the different types of tests like saturated paste, how to utilize all sorts of farming knowledge to interpret theses tests, recommend natural farming amendments, and get into extremely nerdy soil talk.

  1. Always love the content. Still building my homestead, I’m in what’s called the sand hills and it’s beach sand. Still haven’t been very successful collecting imo not giving up though.

  2. What gets me confused is listening. How about they put a range of what is good off to the right on the test. Then tell us what is a good way of adding either by manure of some type of amendments and possible say like how many pounds 100 square foot 10'x10' area…I will rewatch this video I just thought I would say something of why I don't get it!

  3. Bro if you were yoked up you would be a terrifying food grower

  4. I truly hope this is helpful for everyone who watch’s it.

Everyone Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions about your soil of if you’d like help with soil testing.

My links are in the show notes.

Thanks for putting this together for us Steven!

  5. I work in agronomy and have done many soil tests ( quite a few today even!) and meet with growers. All I can say is soil testing is huge! Without it you are growing blind and won't truly know where your soil is deficient. One commonly overlooked aspect that I'm glad was mentioned is Calcium to magnesium ratio. If your base saturation percentages are out of whack even if you have rich soil the plants will suffer.

  6. You and Bruce of RED gardens are two of the best sources of information in organic farming. Thank you.
