This landscape design highlights tropical ornamental plants, pocket gardens, water features and leaf patterned pathways that are budget friendly DIY garden projects, designed and created by the owners of the sprawling property.

Mostly re-purposed and locally sourced natural materials such as drift wood and coconut by- products were used as fences, plant boxes and borders and decorative garden accents which made the garden design project budget friendly. All of which, together with the leaf shaped cement pathways add to the uniqueness and rustic appeal of the garden. Several attractive pocket gardens of colorful and rich textured ornamental plants, accentuated with water features, are DIY garden ideas scattered around the property. These may serve as pegs for your next DIY garden design project.

Aside from the collection of ornamental plants common in the Philippines, this 7,000 sqm property boasts of a mini coconut plantation, vegetable patches and fruit bearing trees as the owners follow the FAITH (Food Always In The Home) culture. Not to mention, a natural pond full of tilapia which interestingly, are considered as pets by the owners in addition to their 2 dogs, “Agos” (Water Flow) and “Alon” (Wave).

If you need a break from city life, GREEN LEAF BALER is worth a visit. It’s idyllic setting and lush greenery is guaranteed to rejuvenate your mind and soul. During your stay, you are sure to meet the hospitable and amiable former flight attendant owners who are more than happy to share their DIY landscape design ideas and knowledge on sustainable living.

The resort is located in Sitio Tabing Ilog, Barangay Reserva, Baler, Aurora which is 244 kilometers (152 miles) north-east of Manila, Philippines. It has 2 Villas: “Madre de Agua” and “Madre de Cacao” each with its own plunge pool. The nearest beach is Charlie’s Point which is 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) away from the property and highly recommended for surfing and fishing. A fun fact, in the 70’s, the epic war movie “Apocalypse Now” directed by Francis Ford Coppola was filmed on that beach.
