The Eccentric Recluse

Born in 1951 and of Polish descent, Jeff really enjoyed working with his hands, he enjoyed automotive repair, woodworking and metal work. This is evidenced most clearly in this home that we are exploring today. You can see some of the work he has done both inside and outside of the home. There are little details everywhere, from the woodwork, to the decorative angels, the metal work on the fireplace to the railings outside the home that have little metal flowers inside. Built in the Tudor style with a very strong medieval vibe to it, I suspect that he may have built the entire home himself or at least added onto the home significantly over the years while he was living there. The details in this home did not stop at the visible and decorative, he also created some things for function as well. Throughout the home, almost every light fixture was on a motion sensor. There were also those cheap dollar store battery operated lights stuck to the walls in random places, some of which were still working during the explore! He had built large speakers into the walls and the ceiling throughout the living room, I didn’t even notice these during the initial video explore, but they were everywhere. Many of the windows also had bars over them, much like the type you would see on city homes in a bad area.

The son of a mechanical engineer who worked for Air Canada, he was a draftsman by trade and it is no surprise to see the world that he created and surrounded himself with. Jeff was never married and he apparently, according to neighbours, passed away in this very home in 2015. He was only 64 years old.

The house was an absolute pleasure to explore but at the same time with the bars over the windows and the dim and dyeing dollar store lights turning on and off, it left me feeling a bit uneasy, almost like Jeff may return at any moment. Or maybe that he was still somehow watching over the house.

In 2021 the house and property were sold at auction to cover the property taxes owed. Since then, in late 2022, the new owners have cleared away a lot of the overgrowth, the cars are gone and it looks as though they have gutted the inside. Only time will tell if this house is completely demolished or if the new owners decide to save it!

  1. Hi James 👋 I got a question for you 😁Do you know what year this house was build 😎 I bet this was a nice house back in the day James 👍

  2. Thank you James for the tour of the place and I’m really enjoying this too 👍❤️😁Outstanding video😎

  3. From what I see is this place and around it this could bring 2 Million dollars just in scarp and vintage cars, trucks all the wood. Who ever buys this property is going to make out big on it. Great video thanks for sharing this.

  4. Yes it will a be . A very good place to get in tip top shape. He started a very good work .
I sure hope new owners . Keep and fix floors and need stuff . I hope u can give us new updates on it

  5. I love the way you are so respectful you are to try not to step on stuff and break it. It is good to see there is still good boys in this world.

  6. It’s good to be back James. Hope you had a great Christmas & Happy, happy new year! I will definitely go back & watch the ones I missed. Now to the house. Actually I’m speechless. I thought my Uncle was a hoarder. His basement was so packed it only had a couple paths to get through. But he new where everything was. It certainly looks like the ransackers were looking for cash. Or at least something specific. The bathroom ceiling & chandelier was crazy. I wonder where he got all that beautiful wood. Did he carve it or? So many questions. I loved how you were able to fill in as much as possible. That was really interesting. If you see that the house was saved or demolished, please let me(us) know. Thanks James. Take care

  7. I knew the former resident was a single male when I saw the crankshaft on the living room table at 10:12. The only sign of there possibly having been a woman living in the house was the pink bathtub. The old truck at 28:47 appeared to be in restorable condition, hopefully it didn't end up being turned into scrap metal.

  8. It is a damn shame about the car with the tree on it. That is a Oldsmobile Delta 88, not sure of the year.

  9. Your stills bring the beauty and magnificence of the house and his work to life! Looks like a cute little cottage in the woods!

  10. Wholly freaking awesome 😎💕 that place is like a 17th century castle in France or some where the auto shop was awesome 👍😎 that is a piece of art like to woop the people that tossed that place

  11. Looks like they cut a whole in the floor maybe to unfreeze some pipes, looks like part of the vacuum was there to blow hot air on the frozen pipes , my grandfather used to do this to our frozen pipes.

  12. Hi James! Oh my word this is definitely a very interesting and unique place. The woodwork is lovely! I think the kitchen is my favourite part. That along with the woodwork. Your photos are amazing! Very sad for the owner that he had no one to pass it on to and that it’s been gutted. It’s a hard one, but I really think deceased estates should be left alone, as in not gutted or demolished, especially if it’s life long owner designed and built it himself. Very sad. Brilliant video though! Thank you once again for your hard work! Oh, and I love the outtakes 😂 You do very well in your intros and outros. Far better than I would! For somebody who always has a lot to say I wouldn’t know what to say 😂

  13. Good explore James. We've seen couple others do this one , but yours is the best one. You were able to find some history on this guy and close date of abandonment. None of the others did , so I guess that kinda puts you in a league of your own. My wife and me have been following you for awhile , we are big fans and enjoy your talent. Northeast louisiana USA

  14. This was so gorgeous. A beautiful mess. I love the music, it perfectly woven through the pictures and video. Wherever Jeff is, I think he'd like this.

  15. What an extraordinary house! The woodwork and metalwork were very impressive. He had an amazing talent. Ignoring the hoarding, this is a beautiful home. Tudor and medieval tend to be my favorite types. I truly hope the new owners save this property and bring it back to the incredible place it could be. Thanks for the wonderful explore!

  16. Can you imagine how fantastic this place was before it got trashed. It is so strange and beautiful! I love it , and I hate the destruction and clutter. I’m sad I didn’t see it beautiful, but as the tour went on I’m thinking this place has been cluttered and packed full for awhile, but also has beautiful woodwork, some of the light fixtures are pretty. I love the Angels.

  17. I don't know what to say oh wow wow I think it was a hoarder I really love the woodwork is very pretty maybe the new owners will try to save some of it nice fun at least we know what's going to make somebody else a home or at least the land will nice fine another great video thank you

  18. This house is quite interesting for sure. The former owner had some unique tastes. I got the feeling he died a lonely death. Poor soul. I loved that fridge in the kitchen. Another awesome explore JH. Big Hugs. 😊😊😊

  19. "A bit of a hoarder"? LOL…. Shame it was trashed. There's a lot of valuable things in there going to waste. Your photos are fantastic! Have to say I'm not keen on the voice-over, although it's good to know the history. The outside is beautiful, I hope it's salvageable by the new owners.

  20. Great find!!! The way it was ransacked looked like some one was trying to find hidden money. In coffee cans, under the mattress etc It looked like every potential hiding space was overturned yet valuables were left behind. This is high up on my all time favorite as there was so much to see. I paused the video 100 times to see it all. Now that all of the belongings are gone, do you think you could get back in so we can see the architectural details 😃

  21. James ! Your enthusiasm doing these explores , sets you apart from all others ! The only reason any guy would have that many VCR 's was for coping porn ! I assume his cause of death at such an early age was excessive " JO " !

  22. what a beautiful home you would think you see this type of home in other parts of the world like Europe or France but never Canada , you have done a lovely and respectful way you did your video this gentleman loved what he did but it was a shame he had no wife or children so he can leave it behind for them . Again another great video and thankyou for shearing this video

  23. All the tools and equipment, the parts alone could be worth thousands…..unbelievable

  24. Thanks for another cool video James. That was a very interesting house to explore. It does beg the question of what happened to the owner of the abandoned house for sure. Lots of old antiques in there. Love the woodwork and the metalwork in there too. Thanks for sharing James. Much love and stay blessed🥰🤗❤✌👍🙏🌞🌚

  25. Wow what a house that could be with alot of work and alot of money…he was definitely a bachelor…looks like he lived and loved life and died alone how sad…and only 54 wow why…poor guy…wat a great find!!!

  26. I always wonder about the back story, how does it end up that way? Cars, entire contents…
