  1. I have the same drip tape goal for this year. We had drought conditions here in SE Michigan all summer last year and I hand watered to try to water more effectively. That took TOO LONG, lol. Also have the same goal to expand the in ground portion of my garden to grow potatoes. We tried some in grow bags and some in ends of raised beds. We need more space than that.

  2. I'm super small scale, in an apartment. And I'm trying to set realistic goals. But it's so hard with all these beautiful homestead channels being able to do so much. <3 I hope you meet all your goals and I'm excited to see it come to fruition over the next year.

  3. Hello,
I want to first say, I pray no Tornadoes touch down in your area. I started my first garden last May. After figuring out this is something I am good at, I have been buying seeds to start my 2023 garden. I am going to expand my backyard garden.
Can't wait to go on this journey with you

  4. Thoroughly enjoyed the video, I've been gardening for several years and still trying to get a more organized plan in place, I'm limited on space so I do some raised bed and some container growing, my bee box is in one of my garden area, haven't tried doing much near them but going to try and see how it goes this Spring, hopefully they'll place nice 😂

  5. Peace and Blessings fellow gardener😊! I started laying out my plans, I'm building three raised beds, trying to utilize walking space between the beds.

  6. Happy 2023, Barbara! I pray y'all have an amazing year…may Abba Father awe you continuously!😃
My main goals are to downsize on the amount of food I grow and to garden smarter.😃
I did like you, and looked at what we eat a lot of and what we really don't eat that much.
I'm also looking at cost…growing more of those things that cost more in the supermarket.
I add things bit by bit to the garden each year…trellises, beds, compost bins, rain barrels, etc instead of trying to do it all at once. Last winter I purchased trellises and made a few more out of repurposeed items. This winter we will make moveable poles to attach shade cloth to and are currently laying weed barrier throughout my small garden. 👩🏾‍🌾
I always make a garden plan and note what I plan to secession plant in each area.

  7. Love, love, love this video! I am new to your channel, and this is my third year gardening in a community garden in zone 7b. You are inspiring to me. My goal for 2023 is to prep and prepare my backyard for some raised beds. I live in a townhouse community and am limited on what I can do, but I am encouraged to be more sustainable for me and my family. Your thoughts on being more intentional on what crops you will be cultivating are spot on for me. When I think of a crop I want to grow, the first thing I do is research how many ways it can be preserved. And am I capable of carrying out any of the ways it can be preserved. Meaning, I do not have a dehydrator or freeze dryer, so if it can't be frozen, canned, or fermented, then I am out of luck.
I really liked your goal, and I wish you much success on them. Be blessed.

  8. Hello !! I’m glad to be here. I’m a newish Gardner. For 5 years I gardened in raised beds at my apartment complex. I had some success and failures. Like you I stopped growing okra and eggplant. Too much yield for me. Last year I moved next to my parents property and started my first in ground garden. It was an epic fail. I had too much going on in life and the animals ate some of my plants and the ground definitely wasn’t ready.

So this year I’m thinking about building a 2-3 raised beds. And putting a few things in the ground.

    Thanks for sharing your journey.

  9. Hi Barbara. I had the same weather warnings but thank God no damage in my area pray you are good also. I am trying to plan for my garden also. I had very little success last year. ❤

  10. I have just found you and may be talking about things you have already discussed. I have been using the weed barrier and planting in it. It helps tremendously with the grass and weeds. Yes it is expensive but I have been using the same weed barrier for 4 years. I buy from grower solutions but you can get it off of Amazon too and I have bought some there and have been satisfied. I have raised beds and plant in ground. My seed starting is all done with winter sowing you need to look that up. It' has not failed me at all. There isn't anything seed that I know of that you can't winter sow. Now I direct sow squash and cucumbers and usually okra just because it comes up so easily. I use fabric pens as markers because it does not fade in the sun. Just some of my tips. I am very happy for your high tunnel. Still a goal for me.
I just cut my okra up and put cornmeal in a freezer bag and just throw it in there as I grow it and shake and keep in freezer and just bring out when we need to cook it. Do the same thing with squash. Again can't imagine 60 ft of okra lol that's a lot You a good planner. God is Good..

  11. I didn't get to plant anything last year due to recovering from radiation. This year, my plan is to be completely UNINTENTIONAL! LOL! I just want to plant as much as possible and get back in my garden. But you are correct in your goals/planning. Maybe I'll get there in 2024. 😊
