Potatoes are one of the easiest and cheapest vegetable you can grow. I’ve had great success over the years growing all of mine (including main crop) in 20L pots. In this video you’ll hear all about my reasons and benefits for growing spuds in tubs, my tips on how to get the biggest harvest and see my planting tutorial step by step! I’ll also tell you all about the varieties I have chosen to grow in 2021 (spoiler alert, it’s quite similar to 2020 – stick to what works well for you!)

  1. Do you only put compost into the pots? No soil? No aeration , like vermiculite etc.? Just compost? I've never tried growing potatoes before. Too late for this year , maybe next (if it comes). Cheers.

  2. Trying some gold potatoes this year. First time trying to grow. Thanks for sharing! Very helpful! We're in Michigan!

  3. Hello and welcome and how are you Katherine so so so much more And you are beautiful for everything and Every day and Every time and Every Year 😚😋🇺🇸🇺🇸💏💏🌸🌵👒🎓🎩👚👙🙋😚🎸🎻🎺🐫🎹👝👜👔

  4. i love UR shallot or Challot potato specie since we have exactly same specie in Karachi Pakistan & it's extremely tasty #👍❤️

  5. Very impressive, eloquent presentation. Professionally produced and edited as well. Wouldn't look out of place on BBC. I'm inspired! Keep up the great work!

  6. I have been growing potatoes for 2 years now, thanks for the great ideas you mention I will definitely try the varieties and the methods you use 10/10 for your video and information thank you 👍

  7. +1 to growing potatoes in pots/bags! Potato plants take up so much space and in a bed that's a huge waste of square footage. I use home-made compost, so the only thing I had to buy was the containers (i'm using grow bags).

  8. Newbie here. Did you say you fill the whole bucket with compost? Not topsoil, or triple mix?

  9. Ok. Since you slightly bury the pots in the soil…do you have any problem with the wire worm?

  10. I'm here finishing a half hour long "How to" binge because I was too lazy to look anything up in spring for my first attempt at potatoes. It resulted in me only growing the above ground section of the plant. All that watering and excitement only to dig them up and find… nothing.

So for the benefit of anyone else looking in the comment section for tips, digging trenches and planting into a little bit of top soil and a lot of clay will get you nothing except stems and leaves. Potatoes like looser soil. If you have hard and or clay dirt growing in a bucket might be your best option.

  11. I have a question for you: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO GO TO HEAVEN? According to the Bible, John 3: 5 tells us “..unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.”

You need to be born again in Christ, in order to enter Heaven when you die: that means change your ways and live a righteous life. No one is perfect, but it important to repent everyday, because the worst thing anyone can ever hear is “Depart from me, I never knew you”…and be thrown into the eternity of Hell forever and ever.

  12. I have planted maris peer in similar pots around mid-aug here in the uk. watered well but now all the plants have gone over shrivelled and yellow. i thought they would be ready for december, what should i do?

  13. I'm trying to be less reliant on supermarkets and decided to throw some potatoes i hadn't eaten thst were starting to sprout in some pots and see what would happen. They're growing insanely well, but I realise I've cocked up. I cut the potatoes into pieces and covered the pot in a layer of them. I might try a container and do some properly, as I suspect those ones won't work out. But hey, it was worth a shot.

  14. @homegrowngarden Hi Katrina! Don't the wireworm climb into the containers? Maybe thats a stupid question, IDK. 😆 Another more sensible one. When do you plant your first lot? I'm in Kent so maybe near you, you don't sound Northern lol. Never grown spuds before, grown lots else. Got some onions on the go.
