About Us.
Byther Farm is a small organic homestead, being designed and managed using permaculture practices. We aim for self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetables for increased self reliance and better resilience to the modern world. I recognise that we are unlikely to be truly self sufficient, but do the best we can. I share our home with my loving husband, Mr J and our cat, Monty.
We are a fifty-something couple who live on a smallholding in Carmarthenshire, Wales. We are going green and creating a gentler, cleaner and more healthy life for our family.
Having had a highly successful smallholding in Monmouthshire, we hope to recreate the abundance at our new home. There will be a large organic kitchen garden with no dig gardening raised beds and young food forest in which to grown our fruit and vegetables.
We keep a few sheep and Aylesbury ducks.

Great video ❤
what a lovely video liz
Even here in Wales crops failed due to either too wet or too dry. Any suggests as to how to over come this please
Cracking video LIZ… better than gardeners world lol 😂
I have a QUESTION about autumn bearing raspberries. I've heard that you can leave the old growth to get a small harvest in spring, then prune those canes back and still get an autumn harvest on the first year canes. I've also heard that if you do that, the autumn berries will be smaller in size (meaning the individual berries not the overall harvest, but I would think if the berries are smaller the harvest would be also). What are your thoughts on leaving the canes? I'll just add that my reason for choosing autumn bearing was the pruning back – my eyesight makes it difficult for me to identify which are first year and which are second year canes, so the idea of simply cutting everything back is very appealing to me. Thank you!
Great video Liz, et. el. Really cheered me up.
I am currently reminding myself that we need the rain. Most of last week was waiting for Thames Water to come out and fix our overflowing sewage overflow pipe. When eventually arrived turned out it was next door's that was blocked and they even found a brick in the drain!
Anyway, now waiting to get out when the rain stops, so looking forwarding to watching some more new channels this year in the meantime!
