Half a century ago the German Duke Carl von Württemberg purchased a 55.000-hectare parcel of land in the Selkirk Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. He baptized his holdings after his native Black Forest, “Darkwoods”, and managed the forests in the lonely region sustainably. Until today the barely accessible mountain ranges are home to rare mountain caribou, grizzly bears, endangered bats, wolves and unique birds. Just a few years ago, the area returned to Canadian ownership – bought by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). They want to preserve Darkwoods with its unique flora and fauna, but also want it to be a showcase region of Canada. They get help from Gerry the Stream Keeper, Cory the bat researcher, Adrian the botanist and Leo the caribou scientist.
The film takes the viewer into the nearly impassable Darkwoods with its ecosystems of old growth valleys and alpine meadows, and shows its unrivaled nature through the seasons of a year – a wonderful part of Canada, now preserved forever.

Today, Darkwoods is back in Canadian hands – the plan is to make it the country’s showcase region. We observe the unrivaled nature through the seasons of a year and get enchanted by this region of inestimable value for plenty of rare animals.

  1. I understand the importance of saving these beautiful places but I still think so many people a year should also get to experience such beauty in their lifetime and not just a scientist. Those caves are a wonder in themselves. Just sayin

  2. At 16:35 is that a tire at the bottom left in the water??? Am i seeing things or what, but i do think it's a car tire…Can anyone else tell me if That's what that is?? Thank you all & Blessings to you all from puerto rico with lots of love

  3. "these 2 species share caverns but we don't usually see them paired together." "this spring the bat will pump its blood into the finest vessels of its body" – "THE FINEST VESSELS" – "did i say i'm done yet" o RETARTED

  4. a road isn't going to stop a bear from finding a mate or food. High production quality but bullcrap commentary. "the FINEST veins" – we all know that some veins are finer than others don't we. One thing i have noticed as i watch more and more videos is the content that should be serious has become the most inundated with the most unexceptable commentary by those who need to find a less civil occupation.

  5. Sunday 1st January 2023 North East near Scotland. 🇬🇧⛵ Happy New Year. Wishing you all a happy healthy awesome New Year and healing for the hurt and lost. AF 🇬🇧⛵🦔😻
Ps. I've watching your videos, Liked! Subscribed! Shared. Thank you.

  6. We should get rid of Drax Group of Companies too! They are decimating Canadian forests to produce wood pellets for Japan and the UK to burn in their power plants. That’s very destructive, whereby, Canadian families could prosper with Canadian forestry management to lower lumber prices for home construction in Canada, instead of arguing over tariffs with the USA. Biologists have never been more important to conserve forests, replant and manage to environment for both humanity and wildlife as well. The BBC and CBC did too investigative journalism reports about Drax. Look for them in YouTube, Happy New Year, and thx 🙏 for your important work

  7. Had to stop watching. The word 'Caribou' is, like 'sheep', both the singular and plural. So, a caribou, a herd of caribou. It doesn't take an 's'.

  8. Would be nice if America farmed more native plants and trees like oak has edible seeds kinda leach out the bad first but ya edible.
