Friends Buy ~90-Acre NURSERY & Turn into HOMESTEAD: 4 YRS in 10 MINS— Ep. 145



It’s nice to start the new year off with reflection and a plan.

Four years ago, we came together as a group of friends to discuss partnering on purchasing some land together—a sort of communal homestead that we would be able to co-work, co-live, and co-create on. At the time, all of us were living in New York City—but we were all originally from the country or a small town and knew we would eventually settle in a small community again where we could commune with nature more.

Two years of what would eventually become nail-biting searching ensued (2018 – 2020), and then towards the tail end of that two year process, we were fortunate enough to find a beautiful piece of earth, which had been a plant nursery for 30 years prior.

This is our story of how we came together and what we’ve been able to accomplish within those two years of time on the land. And a little of what we’re looking forward to in the New Year.

    I have only felt that way a few times…..coming home….when we moved to Toledo…his family lives here…I felt like a fish out of water….I'm a country boy…born and hope to die as such…I had had lots of poultry..chickens ,ducks, geese, turkeys, guineas, pea fowl, pigeons and doves. So I feel like an alien on a strange world, only my plants keep me anchored. I am a HUGE lover of roses. I don't call myself a rose expert, I just love them. I'm my life time I have had about 1,800 roses. That's when Pickering in Canada was open. I landscaped 3/4 of an acre around my parents home and put in 2 ornamental fish ponds. I loved it! In 2002 I was diagnosed with arthritis and fibromialgia so I had the let the gardens return to lawn. I could still keep up with my poultry. I met the love of my kufe in 2004 and we moved to a small town and now we live here. Toledo will let people have a few hens, so I'm excited about that. I see how young you all are and what a great idea you have come up with. It's a little like the Amish way. You potential is limitless there.. you can do all most anything your mind comes up with!!!!! When you get ready for chickens please let me know…I'm up to date on most USA and European breeds and I know many smaller breeders for good quality birds…and if your goal is only eggs, remember, there is not a chicken breed that comes close in ability to a duck layer…its just you need a slightly different mind set with ducks…beautiful video everyone…I wish each of you all the happiness you deserve!!!!!!!🐈🐦🌈☘️🌹🐣🐔🐓💐🌿🌲🌞🦆🦚🕊

    Amazing the work everyone has committed to the land, we’re on a family Ranch in Washington, when I moved onto the land, it lacked any landscaping, Several garden have been created, now I’m Creating a 3 tier Perm-a Culture garden, I love this approach so natural! I’ve planted many varieties of fruit trees , fruit bushes, berries, nut trees, I have chickens , ducks, horses, dogs cats, a bear and cubs that hang out the very back of the property, deer, coyotes, cotton tail rabbits, squirrels, lots of wild birds, wild ducks and geese on our pond,! And a Seasonal Creek, there’s always activity here, I have Two grown sons and their families that live in their homes on the property, my husband has a saw mill and for fun builds furniture, fences everywhere, sheds, storage sheds, wood sheds, garbage sheds, tool sheds, we have a barn, it stores horse hay, tools, and all kinds of storage, the 4 car garage has been turned into a wood shop, I have a small greenhouse, I want a big one, I’ll get it❤️I love our Rach/farm❤️yours sounds wonderful! I can my produce, smoke it and love to cook and bake!
