At the end of the summer of 1946, the French occupiers united the Prussian Rhine provinces, the Hesse districts from the left bank and the pro-Bavarian Palatinate.
The region is famous for its dynamic development. The largest European chemical company BAST operates in Ludwigshafen, shoe factories are located in Pirmasens, and Idar-Oberstein is engaged in the stone-cutting industry. The flow of tourists annually is about 7 million people.

Main cities: Mainz, Kaiserslautern, Koblenz, Trier
Mainz, the capital of the region, is conditionally divided into the Old and New Towns. Museums and medieval cathedrals are located in the historical part of the city, among which the church of St. Martin and Christ.
In the New Town, a large-scale carnival is held at the end of February, and a wine festival is held at the end of summer. The noisy rhythm of life with restaurants, bars and cinemas is typical for the new part of the city.

Under Barbarossa, many castles and palaces were built, the ruins of which can be seen while walking along Kaiserslautern.
The confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle is located in Koblenz. The water surfaces of the two merging rivers amaze with their picturesqueness. On one of the banks, the second largest fortress in Europe of the Middle Ages has been preserved, where a bright fireworks festival is held.
Once Trier was the imperial residence of Ancient Rome. From the time when the Latin rulers were still in power, many sights have been preserved: the amphitheater, the baths, the viaduct bridge over the Moselle River, which is still functioning.
