In this second part of “500 Days,” the cars and stars of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series arrive in Daytona to prepare for the “Great American Race.” Awaiting them is the most aggressive aerodynamic package that NASCAR has yet conceived, bringing a mix of slingshots and pack racing to the sport’s biggest race.
Included are highlights of the week’s preliminary events at Daytona, featuring the practice and qualifying sessions for the Winston Cup Series televised by their new broadcast partner FOX Sports.

The conversation between Dale Sr. And DW about the helmet is Haunting because we didn't think that days later he would passed away
Greats documentary ever on nascar
The very end gave me a pit in my stomach. That’s what makes what happened on Sunday even more tragic. There was so much excitement, and everything we knew about NASCAR was changing, mostly for the better. This video encapsulates that, only for all that momentum to come to a screeching halt.
Love the videos Brock, excellent job as always! I had forgotten that Ken worked for Fox for the 500, was this the only race where Ken did anything for Fox? Because I’m having a hard time remembering him doing anything else with them after the 500
Who is still racing that old Ganassi chassis?
Brock, I love your videos and love this look back but I don’t know if I can watch part 3. Just still can’t bring myself to relive that portion of 2001 again. Great job. Love your content.
I miss how speedweeks had all this coverage
"An incident … between Dave Blaney and Steve Park" is one of the most unexpected sentences I've ever encountered.
I still Cant wrap my head around that this coming up on 22 years ago. It feels like yesterday.
Absolutely love these videos Brock. 2001 is one of my favorite seasons. I grew up a Dale Jr fan and he is and always will be my favorite driver. My father has never went back and watched the 2001 Daytona 500. He was a Dale Sr fan from the late 1980’s until Dale’s death in 01’. But I convinced him to watch these first two parts of 500 Days and he absolutely loved it. Great stuff
Surprised nobody in these comments has said anything about how eerie the Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin incident looked, first time I've seen that honestly
The amount of effort this must’ve taken man.. seriously excellent video. Can’t wait for part 3!
Well, guess I’m not going to sleep. Brock you are the man.
This series is fantastic Brock…. I hope folks 20/ 30 years from now(2022) find this.
Eddie Sheever looks like Alfred Molina
Young Kurt lol
Brock, your work is amazing. Please don't stop
Man I have watched part 1 and 2 three times so far. This is the best produced Nascar content I have ever seen. I hate watching stuff where they skim over details. I would watch this again and again even if it was 10 hours long.
Genuinely thank you for this Brock. Hope to see you in Sonoma in '23!
God I miss the early 2000s. When speed channel covered speed weeks with hour after hour of coverage. Even when cars weren't on the track they'd air specials about racing or play classic daytona 500s. It was a different time
This is ABSOLUTELY what this platform was made for. Hard to believe this is free content. Brock, you’ve done it again. Damn outstanding work sir.
Well I watched the whole thing thru. It's 5:18 am and Ive gotten 7 hours of sleep since Thursday but of the bright side I am a Nascar historian after these past few days lol
awesome video cant wait for part 3
the 2001 Daytona 500 feels like it was just yesterday but it was almost 22 years ago wow
i remember being so excited about The 2001 Daytona 500 and then being so crushed by the sad ending to that day when We lost Dale
having been to Daytona for the 2022 Daytona 500. even just sitting in the stands feels awesome Daytona is a awesome magical place
These are the most enjoyable series of videos that I have ever watched. The insights, the detail and the coverage of all of the things leading up to the on-track action is amazing. Thanks so much for doing these. I've learned so much as well that I didn't know. Its great to reminisce of the good days of stockcar racing before it went to hell. Keep up the awesome job!
It's taking me a few days but I'm almost done the video. Enjoying it. Can't wait for the rest of them.
This 2 Parter is without a doubt, and with no exaggeration, some of the best motorsports content I've ever seen in my life. Bravo sir, bravo. You have outdone even yourself this time.
Really well done documentary, Brock.
Seeing Skinner win that 125 at the beginning of the season and then Robby Gordon wins Loudon in the 31 at the end of the season…after Earnhardt's death and 9/11. It's like a different world
Man what a video!!! The whole weekend is just so eerie to look back on with all the coincidences that happened. It will be a sad one but I can't wait until Part 3.
I was going to wait until part three, but I gotta say it. Your work is phenomenal as ever, Brock. I can't put into words how much I love the amount of research and dedication that you put into your videos. Thank you as always for offering us such incredible content and helping to tell stories most people might not know/have gotten the chance to know due to being overshadowed in the wake of the 2001 Daytona 500 and as well with the Rise of the Field Fillers series. Can't wait for part three!
Man, Dale hardly ever gave an interview without walking lol
Thank you so much for both parts of this amazing documentary, Brock! You are giving your fellow NASCAR fans a gift with your insight and historical knowledge of the sport. I am looking forward to part three! Masterful job!
The sound of Bill Elliott's Dodge screaming around the high banks of Daytona is a symphony of sound.
