  1. Thanks everyone for adding your own recommendations – a lot of great channels highlighted in the comments section! To clear some confusion, the main list of 25 are not "my favorites" or "my picks" – rather just the historically most popular as voted by viewers (in views!). If you want to know what I've been watching recently, it's a far more modest list (based on some personal interests) discussed in this video: https://youtu.be/KqNYfj8p-BU

Some have asked "Why are no flower farmers in the top 25?" or "Where's Gardening with Creekside? I thought they were more popular" etc. and my answer is just that there are millions of historical views weighed in this ranking, and some of those "hot" channels and topic areas would take some time to reach the all-time top 25. Creekside is currently at 109 on my list ranked by views, but is trending extremely well, and will overtake a bunch of established channels (including mine!) in no time. I'd anticipate the same is true for The Veggie Boys, Growfully with Jenna, The Weedy Garden and probably quite a few others that I'm not paying attention to yet.

So far I've learned that I did miss at least one channel in the top 25: Plants with Krystal (omitted, but should rank #23 at time of release): https://www.youtube.com/@PlantswithKrystal/featured

Also, given how quickly growwithjessie cracked the top 5 with a strong viewership in Shorts, I'd imagine there will be some other major disruption of the list related to the short-form format. Should be interesting!

  2. I have subscribed to many of those. I also enjoy Whispering Willow Farm. Among others. When it comes to roses you are my favorite.

  3. RED Garedens and Garden Fundamentals are both full of in-depth information. The beginner basic info gets old.

  4. Something I love about this community is how inclusive it is. No secrets and everyone supports everyone.

  5. Impatient Gardener – Erin. Horttube. Northlawn Flower Farm – she’s a really accomplished gardener all around even though she flower farms on a small scale. You said no English channels but you did include no dig… There’s a bunch of English channels that I follow. Happy to check out some of these on your list!

  6. Sigh, I despise almost everyone on that list and have most of them blocked. I especially detest the bullshit homesteading channels.

  7. S & K Greenhouse is one of my favourites, the knowledge and humour makes this channel a winner for me.
I also really enjoy HortTube with Jim Putnam.

  8. Gardening with Creekside, Impatient Gardener and Hortube with Jim Putnam are on my top 10 list along with Garden Answer, can’t beat Laura! Thanks for the list. Gives me other channels to check out.

  9. Happy New Year to you too! Pity we're not polyglot. Different countries have different approach which would be very interesting.

  10. I like Linda Vater YouTube Gardening channel from Oklahoma City and also Jack Barnwell Design YouTube Gardening Channel from Michigan state,
    👍👍🙏🙏From India

  11. Happy New Year everyone!
You are a brave man Jason.😄
The rating game is so full of pitfalls. Well done.👍
Personally I would have to say that Fraser Valley Rose Farm is definitely a top contender.
Whenever I search for information I simply do a general search and number of these channels will appear depending upon the topic.
The interesting thing is how the YouTube algorithm changes to spread out the views to either generate revenue or "diversify" the platform.
Of course no matter how a person would go about ranking channels it will always be a preference of personal opinion.
I appreciate how you separated the subject matter versus popularity and views. The different metrics allow for a much broader overall exposure of information compared to entertainment value.
The reasons for watching a certain channels are so personally biased that it would be impossible to get everyone to agree on any one channel, but you have done a great job providing a very broad range of content creators.
    Everyone certainly has their favorites.🤙

  12. In fairness to Huw, he's very popular here in the UK where he has also been on tv. And he should be the first port of call for new gardeners. Charles Dowding should definitely should be way up the list and I'm surprised he is not. I used to follow Living Traditions and Roots and Refuge but stopped following both because while I can easily deal with occasional references, I'm not a fan of having people's religion constantly shoved down my throat. I'm there for the gardening and homesteading, not the preaching.

All that said, I appreciate this list. I follow several of these channels but you've given me a few new ones to check out.

  13. I really don’t like videos where the presenter sits, talks, and gestures like MI Gardener. Plus the ones that are just big advertisements like Garden Answer is all about selling Proven Winners. Roots and Refuge is sweet and James Priggioni too. But please take a look at Plantsman’s Diaries and John Lord’s Secret Garden. Besides learning all sorts of great things they are both hilarious here and there. And just because something is popular doesn’t mean it is superior.

I look forward to checking out some of your others from your list but not the hot climate ones since I garden in zone 5 and it’s too hard to grow most of their thins. (But I am growing Barbados cotton inside and it is producing cotton! No friui on my dwarf banana yet.

  14. At the absolute top of my list for beautiful videos is The Weedy Garden. He is a spectacular professional photographer who makes his videos a Dreamscape with lots of wonderful information. Then there is no one else that I would rank above David the good. He speaks to my kind of gardening which is turning poor dirt into wonderful rich soil. The man is Young and energetic and works like nobody I've ever seen before. He is an inspiration to me in all things in permaculture growing food and vegetables. Jason you rate a lot higher than number 68 with me. Stay Green

  15. Edible Acres is one of my favorites. Lots of good info on permaculture style growing and propagating.

  16. I watch quite a few of these YouTubers. I've been watching Laura from Garden Answer and Amanda from Planterina since 2019. I've been watching Kevin for over 2 years now. And I'll occasionally watch Summer Raine, CaliKim 29, MIGardener, the rusted garden, and self sufficient me. I am more of a houseplant person than a landscape person so I mainly watch Houseplant channels like Planterina, Harli G, Nick Pleggi, and Summer Raine

  17. My favorites are Migardener and Gardner Scott (Since he's not on your list, I'd love to know where he falls), and the Rusted Garden.

  18. Thanks for this! Seems to me that you did a sensible job of selecting the participating channels. I just love how you think things through and explain them. One suggestion, if you plan to continue this valuable service… Figure out some way to post the list? Also would be great to include their location. It's hard to find people growing in your area sometimes. One reason I love watching Jim Putnam is he deals with the same soil & weather conditions that I do. Check out how The middle sized garden provides docs for example… I'd be tempted to 'tip' for this 😊 your work saves the rest of us a lot of time!
Edit: Read your pinned comment.. if you did this based on all-time historical views, a YT beast could stay in the top for years w/o producing any content.. obv an odd outcome. What about using last full-year active views?

  19. It's obvious you did a lot of great research. Thanks for an unbiased look at the truly popular channels. I look forward to making the top 25.

  20. Interesting… there was only one in your top 20 that I wasn't already subscribed to. It's a dream to be that successful for sure. I enjoy many many of the channels you mentioned. I'll never get there myself, but it's a blast trying.
