  1. Selah is turning into such a lovely young lady. All your kids are beautiful. God bless you guys!

  2. You hang in there My Friend….Found you when you were interviewing the Hollars…..SO enjoy both web-sites…..God bless you all…..!!!

  3. I have watched this vid several times bc I love its many important messages. People do get sidetracked by trying to be perfect. People need to hear someone say–and more importantly demonstrate, "Start where you are," and "don"t let people make you feel bad". Also, seeing you take care of your health thru exercise is a lot more motivating than just being preached to about it. You & your family are not afraid to show your humanity by discussing the challenges you face. It is uplifting to see y"all successfully deal with the ups and downs of life. Thank you a million!

  4. Nice, I do a couple yoga moves to warm up my muscles before I work around the 'stead. Grow on and God bless you and your family.

  5. We need to develop more sustainable solutions, we need to slowly move away from these temporary solutions that are bound to fail. Thank y'all.

  6. Use mulch in your walkways. You will have a lot less to no work keeping the walkways clean and as the mulch breaks down it will add nutrients to the soil. How can I order some mustard greens (ship to Connecticut)โ“

  7. Clay soil is usually quite nourishing for plants but can be really hard to work . I lived for 25 years in Riverside , Ca. and my lot not only had clay soil but it was adobe clay. Not long after I had moved there , I got the bright idea of putting up a chain link fence. Got my fence materials and a post hole digger. Lots of kids in the neighborhood plus my own. I decided that I should set the posts 18 " deep in cement. The first hole. I rammed the post hole digger into the ground and I hear a clunk ! Oh oh , I've hit a rock or a piece of concrete already . Nope . It was only my soil. A few more tries and I've made a mark in the dirt about 1/ 4 " deep . This is not going to work. So I filled the mark with water. Almost two hours for the water to soak into the ground. I try again. Ah , progress. Now I have a hole about an inch deep ! Two and a half days to dig one post hole 18 " deep. No wonder the grass won't grow. Not even Bermuda grass which will grow in nearly anything.
So , how to grow some flowers ? I had a fruitless mulberry tree in the back yard. When the leaves dropped in the fall , I left them on the ground and let them dry. Hey kids, go play in the backyard. The neighbors were raking their leaves to the curb for the city to pick up. And I was going around with my wagon and collecting their leaves. Yep , onto the back yard. Did I mention that there was not an earthworm to be found on my place ? Never !
After about four years and thousands of leaves I could finally dig in my backyard. And every time that I went fishing and had left over worms , I put them onto my backyard. Eventually there was enough organic material and the worms began to survive. After four or five years you could dig anywhere in my back yard and come up with a dozen worms per shovelful. It takes time but with organic material and earthworms it does work. And worms love coffee grounds as well as tea bags.
Mike , I see a lot of trees in your background.

  8. My fit brother, you got to talk to us more about your soil improvement operation. All us would be farmers and growers are on that same learning curve. I have an unused section of the yard that I pile everything vegetative from leaves, weeds, grass clippings , tree bark and raw vegetable trimmings. My workouts are 30 – 45 minutes of aerobic turning by pitchfork and scoop 3 – 4 times a week. I keep it wet and steaming hot. With fall coming and the leaves from my neighbors I can almost go into the compost business.

  9. ANOTHER TIP MIKE,, WHEN PEOPLE RAKEUP LAWNS & PUT EM ON SIDE OF THE ROAD ALL BAGGED UP, SPRING & FALL,,,,,,, YOU GET FREE BAGS & ONE GREAT COMPOST FOR FREE,, !! IF YOU SEE A LANDSCAPER ASK HIM WHAT HE DOES WITH ALL THE LEAVES HE RAKES & SUCK UP WITH THOSE FANCY MOWERS!! YOU CAN'T HAVE TOO MUCH COMPOST…. IN MY BOOK GRASS IS #1 & LEAVES #2 UNLESS YOU LIVE NEXT TO THE OCEAN THEN IS ROTTEN SEAWEED # 1……. WHAT DOES A HORSE EAT?? COW,, GOAT,, SHEEP,, RABBIT?? AND THEY TAKE OUT THE GOODIES THEY NEED TO LIVE ,,,,YOU THINK THE WASTE IS THE BEST?? WRONG,, LAWN GRASS YOU NEVER GET TO SEED IF IT'S MOWED EVERY 2 WEEKS OR SO,,,, FILL THE ROWS,, BANK UP THE BEDS..EVERY TIME THE BEDS ARE FINISHED PULL HALF THE BED SOIL OVER THE WALKWAYS RIGHT OVER THE OLD WALKWAYS & THE OTHER HALF OVER THE OTHER BED MAKING YOUR OLD FINISHED BED INTO THE NEW WALKWAY.. & ALL THE GREAT COMPOST OF LEAVES & GRASS IS NOW COVERED & FEEDING THE NEXT CROP.. PIGS & CHICKENS ARE GREAT TO TO EAT UP THE LEFT OVERS WITH A PORTABLE PEN NO BURNING WEEDS,, GROW EGGS & BACON!! LOL ,ALOHA

  10. I had red Georgia clay and rocks..I started my garden by burring kitchen scraps in a bed I dug..then made a compost pile later ..but yes every year it got better and better

  11. Aw, Selah has such a cute laugh!! ๐Ÿฅฐ P.S. I don't see the link for info on the patron option.

  12. The Lord and farmer work hand in hand. You got to get your Bud to help. He says, you don't ask, you don't get, or you ask to use it on other things. Meditation is a worthy activity: It soothes you but not much else. You need power that moves mountains and little garden clogs. Believe me, you get connected right, certain challenges will dissolve and things just prosper. Deuteronomy 28 explains blessing and curses. We want blessings. If meditation is needed, then meditate on God's Word. When all else fails, read directions. It works. Take it from someone who knows.

  13. you and your family inspire me.. Keepย your head and always remember that you guys inspire many of us out here. Respect and big love. a Montana fan.

  14. For what it's worth you need to add lime to your clay soil this will help break up the quads c l o d s good luck to you God bless

  16. Over winter can you set a gang of chickens on the worst bed and have them work a couple bales of straw into the area. And all your compost scraps.

  17. Glad to see you pushing that Hoss Double Wheel Hoe, Mike ! I wouldn't take anything for mine! The oscillating hoes are so dang effective! I've sheered a bolt on one, but never broken a blade, and I've used them hard for 4 years now. I bought replacement blades for all sizes, figuring I would break one at some point, but it hasn't happened yet! Touch them up with the file and they're ready to go again (wear gloves when sharpening them, don't ask me how I know!) The new "Winged Sweeps" are really heavy duty sod busters too! Heck, everything those guys sell is top shelf, and they are fine folks as well!

  18. Liked seeing the row flamer ( donโ€™t know the name).. wish my friend would have used flame weed suppression..instead of Roundup on her back..every summer for 3 months.. for years..10?..and now has stag 4 Lung Cancer..Metz to. Brain..non smoker..

  19. Man, What a great kid. Few things I like more than having my Grand Kids follow me around my garden and 'taste testing'. I grow beets and turnips JUST for the greens. The roots go to the pigs to make better bacon. Win, win! A BIT of stress is the 'spice of life' Mike. Embrace it! Thru adversity we GROW. (Pun intended). JMHO…God Bless….~Eli.

  20. Mike my friend, nothing I have seen is a major problem irrating as hell yes but not a major problem, and thank God for those hot gloriouse day that is to hot to farm that is the time you take your famely swimming fishing something these days are God telling you to take a break go and enjoy the true blessing the Farther have given you your famely your wife and your life, Now we had a bad case of Cattle Wresler in the 80 in Ohio one of my calf disappared, did I get mad did I get aggravated hell yes I did but then I calm down and put up a sign two days later the calf came back, and Grandma made me take the sign down, the Sign saind "Beware Of Dog" and under it , it saind "Dog Have Aids" lol Grandma did not see the humor in it tho, like the farmer next to me we would taste each other product and my duck would weed his corn field on his back 40 well I tasted some of his sweet corn, the next day I seen a sign that saind one of these ear of Corn is Poisend, and the following day he brung my sign down to Grandma and me my sign saind "Now Two Of These Corn Are Poisend" , my my Mike internet down Famely Time , and Remeber a Wise man once told me , "Be Strong and Grow On"

  21. All in all your garden seems to do well in clay dirt.. its great you kids enjoy working with you in the garden. Love your channel. Keep up the good work.

  22. Please go to view "Hickory Ridge" published 10/3 for how he amended his clay soil with rice hulls that are extremely reasonable in price.
He's on the same "page" as you are with your soil and he was more than satisfied with what the rice hulls did to the clay.

I believe it will be worth your time and money.

  23. It's refreshing to see a realistic example of market farming on a budget . In costal Oregon the weed pressure is significant because of our temperate climate and abundant rain. The only way for me to keep the pathways clear is to deep mulch with wood chips . This is a readily abundant and cheap resource here.

  24. Shalom! Mike and Lacie, sometimes visiting California will send its negative spirits to grab yah. Our family lives in California and we now have our new farm in the Ozarks, can hardly wait to be there permanently. Sometimes visits to other places will try and make you think that city life, or their life or another lifestyle is a greener side of the fence….but it isn't. Keep yourselves in the mind of Christ and you will not go wrong. Be encouraged and know that Yah will never leave you or forsake you and He loves y'all. Blessings!

  25. I'm really surprised with all your chickens and gardening that you are compost isn't going very fast. Maybe you need to add pigs.what would happen if you used the electric fence in your garden rows and ran your chickens through to help rototill and give you more compost

  26. Is that little 'hoe/plough' device designed to be pushed or pushed by humans and pulled by an animal? Just interested to know how it's designed to function. The position of the body/spine alignment as you were using it, looked potentially hazardous over time. Many thanks for feedback.

  27. Mike, I don't know how I missed your "wheel-hoe" episodes. I love my wheel hoe, and our ground is pretty much the same kind of soil. I have been working on mine for 7 years now and it does make a difference! Yesterday I attached the cultivator teeth to my wheel hoe and sprang up the weeds. Then I decided to bury those weeds by using the little disc cultivator attachment. By turning the disc inward I was able to chop those weeds up a little and then sure enough bury them about 1" deep. I have found that the little disc is more controllable when I have the disc facing inward. It is almost impossible for me to control the direction with the disc angled outward. Keep having fun, with the wheel hoe, and a broad fork there is not much you can't accomplish in your plant beds!

  28. Oh, yeah according to my FIT BIT, I burned 400 calories in about 45 minutes in that exercise yesterday! On a good gardening day, all day, steady working, I can burn 3500-4000 calories in one day!
